I'm still in Hilton Head Island, enjoying my vacation for the time being, before I head back to gear up for the arrival of football season. In typical Gidel-fashion, all hell breaks loose the week I leave town, as UK not only got a verbal commitment over the weekend in football, but landed basketball recruit DeAndre Liggins, this afternoon.

Before I get into football, I have to say I continue to feel vindicated by watching these top flight recruits commit to UK's basketball program. I listened to countless people belittle my intelligence; for my part in "Tubby bashing," when it came to his recruits. In the words of Toby Keith, "How do you like me now?" Now onto your football fix, three days in the making:

(1) UK is in the process of trying to add a player to the class of 2007 - yes, you read that right - and it's not the walk-on track star either. I'll give more information as it becomes available, but UK has offered a kid to enroll as a member of this incoming recruiting class, perhaps in the fall or maybe as a grayshirt in 2008. It's a matter of the kid being sold on the UK program and finding out what to do numbers wise. Tune in tomorrow when we release the name. The UK coaching staff has an open scholarship because of the loss of recruit Duran Jefferson, who is, more than likely, headed for prison in Northern Kentucky. UK's scholarship situation is a tricky one to say the least. Two scholarships will be given back when QB Curtis Pulley returns in the fall to redshirt and WR Michael Strickland returns to the team officially.

(2) Paris (Ky.)'s Chase Dumphord (OL, 6′7, 320) who signed with Michigan State but apparently has come home and Lexington (Ky.)'s Quintin Borders (OL, 6-7, 320) who enrolled in Colorado but is seeking a transfer could possibly find there way to UK's football team in the future. Dumphord can return to Michigan State if he wants too, but might enroll as a regular student elsewhere. Borders' girlfriend goes to Kentucky, so some are assuming UK is his likely destination, but he would need scholarship funding to play and UK football is low on athletic scholarships. Also, additionally, Kentucky could also attempt to bring in 2006 signees Lamarckus Boswell (WR, 5-9, 165) from Greenville (SC) and LaRay Foote (RB, 5-10, 175) from Memphis (Tn.), who both have been seen in Lexington the past two months.
