I just spoke with Phil Kornblut, the Kentucky Sports Radio of South Carolina, who spoke with me about this article in which he states that 6′6″ forward Mike Jones (http://www.goupstate.com/article/20070630/PSPORTS02/70630002/1018/SPORTS) either is now, or will be, visiting Kentucky. Phil said that Mike was a 2006 recruit who went to Syracuse for a semester, but then came back home to South Carolina for the Spring. He had academic troubles at South Carolina and is now at a Junior College in Iowa. It is not clear whether he would be eligible to play at Kentucky this fall, but Billy Clyde has been recruiting and trying to get him on campus. Jones played in the Jordan Classic in 06 and Kornblut says he is a "big time talent." More to come as we find it out…..

First, man Billy G is crazy!!!! I've never seen a recruiting frenzy like this. UNBELIEVABLE. The rest of the nation must be shaking.
Here is a little snippet about Mike Jones: http://hssouthcarolina.scout.com/2/611316.html

I've been sifting through some of the articles, and apparently this Mike Jones was pretty darn good. One thing said he was no.34 prospect in the Durant class, so you can imagine.
Edited to include: I don't remember this guy, so if anybody does, extra info would be awesome. Man I'm excited!!! And there's only 2 hours until the Coach Gillispie show comes on tonight. It's so great to be a wildcat!!!!!!

I don't feel like a recruiting guru anymore the way these names just keep flooding in!! I am simply falling further and further behind on recruiting trail.:eek:

Brother, this is exactly why I have been trying to help out in here lately. This guy is going to be impossible to keep up with. I will say this, you took over the recruiting reigns at the right time. (BTW, you are doing a GREAT job!!).:beer:

Well, the good news is that after this flurry we'll not have any scholarships for two years.

Billy G is absolutely amazing. Fwiw, the guy was #40 overall, #12 at his position on Rivals, and #41 overall, #12 at his position on Scout.

Pretty impressive.

Rick and Coldstream, I'm just sitting back sipping on a gin and tonic and clicking on the UK boards every now and then. I have given up trying to keep up. I'm walking around these days with a secrete smile knowing Coach G is doing what he loves to do.

These are his numbers for '06 in that 1st semester at Syracuse. In one game he had 8 points in 11 minutes of play, but for the most part it looked like he struggled (averaged 1.9 pts, 0.7 rebs, 0.4 assists). I think if anyone can get the best out of him it would probably be Gillispie though. I'm kinda hoping we get Leonard Washington.

I'm afraid WildcatRick and Coldstream (and AndyPopCat and Caveman Catfan and others) may soon NOT be liking Coach Gillispie nearly as much. With his passion for recruiting, Coach Gillispie is WORKING THESE GUYS HARD. :icon_lol: Seriously, thanks a million to you guys for your hard work. :) GO CATS! GO BILLY G!

I second that. Thanks a ton for your efforts, Guy's.:thumbup:
Rivals page with a couple of short videos. Looks like a player. I hope he has his grades in order.

These were his stats while at SC. I can see that they are about the lowest on the team. Not sure what that says since he was only a freshman?

I don't see how he could be eligible this fall. As a xfer from Syracuse alone, he would have to sit out a year. And that's if Syracuse released him from his LOI. Then there is the complication of the USC academic problems. It's hard to see how he could complete the required minimum courses to meet the "academic progress" requirement. Maybe with summer school somewhere?
