The rumor is that Chase Dumphord has quit MSU and has applied to UK as a student with intentions of playing football.

Other sites are reporting Chase had decided to walk away from football entirely. It happens.

One recruit, when asked why he chose baseball over football, replied "Man, did you ever play football?"

Clarify please. Did he mean Dumphord wasn't transferring, or he wasn't coming to Ky?

Don't we already have 85 scholarship players? Best Chase could do would be to sit out his LOI from Michigan and play next year. BTW, the rules say he would have 4 years left to play 3 if my memory serves me well.

When he was in high school, I wanted him to come to UK. Now his indeciveness makes me want him to stay away from the team. Walk-on might be an option but I think he has to get his LOI with MSU satisfied first.

This summer's Ky-Ten Allstar game was likely the best opportunity for Chase to wear a Kentucky uniform. He chose to miss that one too.

That might be what he says before he is contacted by the kid. He still has a lot of elgibility. I don't know how the staff rated him, but he seemed to get respect nationally. If contacted, I would bet the staff would give a listen.

kid is a good prospect. I'd hope we give him a shot if he wants to play for us.

I don't get the kids who give up because it's to tough for them...Heck, It's not as hard as LIFE nor the military...and you get a FREE EDUCATION!

Some have questioned Chase's work ethic.

At his camp in Franklin Joker said that Chase or the kid from CU would not play here.

Dumphord, of Paris, Ky., got homesick during summer conditioning and returned home. Dantonio said the door remains open to him if he has a change of heart.

And, freshman-to-be offensive lineman Chase Dumphord, who hails from a very small town in Kentucky, has decided not to join the Spartans for the time being. Dumphord participated in summer workouts on campus and apparently came down with a case of culture shock.

Not surprised at all. My sister went to a small high school with about 100 in its senior class, to Michigan State back in the early 70's. Came home after one semester. There were probably more people on the floor in her dorm than in her entire senior class. Culture shock certainly is a possibility.
