I just woke up from one of the most memorable night in a baseball park that I have ever had.

Last night, a couple of my friends & I drove up to Cincinnati for the opening game of the San Francisco Giants/Cincinnati Reds 3-game series.

Why? Because it was fireworks night. But more importantly, because it was Harang vs. Zito, and Bonds vs. Griffey. A huge crowd of nearly 38,000 fans packed into the stadium as Griffey trotted out to right field for the top of the 1st inning. It didn't take long for Ray Durham to get on base and then the booing began. There were some cheers for Barry Bonds, and some Giants fans there, but the majority of the people I was around were raining down the boos on him. It's nice to know some people still demand integrity out of their athletes.

I really thought the night was going to be a sour one and one to forget when Barry Bonds took Harang yard in his 1st at-bat. I really have a special kind of hatred for Bonds, especially seeing him in person. I can tolerate him as long as I don't have to see him play my team, but when Bonds comes to town it's like the Wicked Witch of the West to me. I know that some of you like him, heck maybe even love him, but I would not be upset if the man tore his ACL on the way to the dugout tomorrow afternoon.

After the initial shock of Bonds hitting a homer in our park wore off, it didn't take long for the Reds to get on the board. Not by the work of their swings, but the work of their patient eyes. Zito walked in 2 runs to tie the game.

A little bit later, the Giants got another run to make it 3-2 Giants.

That's when the magic happened. With the bases loaded, Brandon Phillips walked up to the plate and jacked one out of the park for a grand slam home run that cleared the bases. This would give Cincinnati a 7-3 lead. But was that enough for the bullpen whose given up more blown saves than Danny Graves on crack?

Amazingly enough, it was. The bullpen actually pitched very well, and held the 7-3 lead for the win.

And what more perfect an ending? Barry Bonds was the last out.

Afterwards, we enjoyed one of the best Pyromusicals I have ever seen. It was an emotional scene as we celebrated our nation's birthday.

In closing, I just want to express how great of a time I had last night, and all for 30 bucks to sit behind the Reds dugout a little ways up. If anyone hasn't been up to Cincinnati for a Reds game this year, give it a try. Even though they aren't the best, nights like last night make you forget completely about all the heartache that the Reds have given you this year, even if just for a night.

This guy belongs to the Reds, whether they're first or last.
