After todays road win over Mississippi State:

First UK women's team to win 8 SEC games in history.

First UK women's team to win 4 in a row in the SEC.

First UK women's team to win 4 road games in the SEC.

First Uk women's team to beat the #1 ranked team in the nation? (Can't remember if Old Dominion was ranked #1 when we beat them in early 80's at what was then a record crowd for women's basketball. Even if they were, heck, that's almost 25 years ago. The staute of limitations has probably run out, so we'll call the win over #1 ranked UT this year a first even if it wasn't:))

Bottom line: The rebuilding plan is way ahead of scheduleand at this rate DeMoss will only have her own records to break before too many years have passed.

I have a question, how can we be behind 36-33 at the half and be down by the scoreof 41-30 with 12:36 to go? Or am I reading this wrong?

Kentucky, which trailed 36-33 at halftime, found itself down 41-30 with 12:36 to go in the game. The Cats then used a 9-0 run over the next 2:18 to come within two, 41-39, with 9:18 remaining. After the Lady Bulldogs (6-19, 1-11 SEC) extended their lead back out to five, 45-40, the Cats used another 9-0 run over the next 4:15 to go in front 49-45 with 3:15 left in the game. Sophomore forward/center Eleia Roddy (Columbus, Ohio) had six points during that stretch. Junior guard Nastassia Alcius (Lexington, Ky.) provided a key defensive spark that allowed the Wildcats to take their first lead (47-45) since the 7:32 mark of the first half.

What a great job by the players & coaches alike. Here's hoping they do well in the SEC & NCAA tourneys.

CATHY, there's really only one senior we will bid farewell to on Sunday - little used reserve Stephanie Stumbo. Jennifer Humphrey, also listed as a senior, somehow has another year of eligibility left and last I heard is expected back next year. Throw in an awesome recruiting class arriving next season and the fun is just getting started for UK Hoops!

In all seriousness, I think Mitch Barnhart should take strides to ensure that Mickie Demoss is here for the long haul. I don't see Pat Summit coaching too much longer at UT and obviously Demoss will be at or near the top of their wish list, as she would at any other High Profile women's program if an opening were to come up. I know our success is still in the infancy stage but it is obvious she is building for long term stability not just a one year fluke. Demoss should be rewarded with a lucrative long term contract that cements her at UK for the forseeable future and staves of any attempt by the percieved powerhouses to lure her away. UK has the resources to compensate her as well as any Women's coach nationally.

I don't know the terms of her current contract, but I do know Mitch made it competitive with other SEC coaches from the start. He had to in order to get DeMoss. I'm fairly confident he will do whatever is necessary to keep her. One plus about staying here versus following Summit is that she can build her own legacy in a program that was headed nowhere before she arrived rather than following a legacy where every move would be held up to the Summit comparison. But you are right; Mitch needs to lock her in.

I believe that Mickie is making $300,000+ a season now. That is a highly competitive salary. If attendance continues to increase, and there is a corresponding increase in the cost of season tickets, then there should be consideration of salary increases, but I wouldn't think before then. And I doubt if Mickie would feel differently.

Additionally, Pat Summit is only 53, just 3 years older than Mickie. Unless she suffers total burnout, I can't see her retiring for at least another 7 years, if then. She is so competitive that I can't see her retiring earlier than Gino and without thumping him several more times.
