Wallace close to decision

Bowling Green (Ky.) High School tight end Ryan Wallace said his college commitment could come within a few weeks.

The son of Purples coach Kevin Wallace has his list down to Cincinnati, Stanford, the University of Kentucky and Mississippi. The senior-to-be said he would also consider Georgia Tech if it offered him after he attends camp there.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Wallace is among the state's top prospects.

Cole gaining attention

Somerset (Ky.) wide receiver John Cole had one of the most productive high school football seasons in state history last fall.

He caught 86 passes for a state-record 1,891 yards and state-best 28 touchdowns. But even those numbers didn't have colleges swarming the 6-foot, 171-pound senior-to-be.

However, his speed has caught their eyes this summer.

Cole has gone from no offers to a couple after running the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds at the Vanderbilt and Stanford camps. Vandy has made an offer, and Cole said he's "confident" the Cardinal will do so soon.

"Now it's kind of starting to become a reality," Cole said of his recruiting process. "When you run (the fast times) in front of them, then stuff starts to happen. I have been camping well, and hopefully I'm showing them what I can do.

"It's been fun, and once a couple of schools offer it's like a domino effect."

Western Kentucky University and Eastern Kentucky University have also made offers. Cole has also been to the University of Louisville and said the Cardinals are in the mix.

If it's Cole's speed that is just now catching folks' attention, then they haven't been paying attention b/c that's what his claim to fame has been.
