Scroll down to the paragraph titled "World of Willie". I believe this might give a little more insight as to his demeanor.
I take the, "I told him (Kobe Bryant) that in a game to five, I’d give him four points,” Warren said. “He started laughing.”, as a little bit of a joke.

I'm probably gonna come off as rude here, but I don't want that cocky little snot on this team. I'm real close to his age so I feel like I can understand where he is in life, but I can't ever understand cockiness like that. I hope we completely give up on recruiting this kid altogether.

I think an attitude like his could be good for our team in a way. It seems to me that he would go in and think that he could not be beat and that attitude may get out to the rest of the team. We need to go into every game and say we are the best there is and we will not lose. Sure he is cocky, but he might be the type of player we have needed. Just IMO though

it's called sarcasm, he isn't seriously going to spot the best basketball player in the world any points in a one on one game, it's a joke, not cocky-ness...and quite frankly if you had talent that could back it up, it would be OK if you talked a little junk now and then...I don't mind Willie Warren at all, I like guys that are a little quirky at times...don't worry he's not coming to UK

I think this article shows Willie has a great personality. :shrug1: But, I love his mother. She took his phone away from him. :icon_biggrin: You gotta love a mama who will do that.

LMAO......I can't get over your name as Teamchemistry and you are stating that his cocky attitude would be good for the team. Not to mention, not sure how many folks saw the first episode of Bronx Burning on ESPN last night.....Willie may have a little Reggie in him.
Sorry, I have no interest in a player who states that he is interested in "one and done" in college and that he is not interested in programs who have players that could sub for him when he makes mistakes......Willie is all about Willie and I have no interest.
I'm not a Kobe Bryant fan but, good luck on that one on one game big mouth.

I remain a Willie Warren fan. To deny that most other players his age have similar aspirations seems to me extremely naive--all of those guys want to be one and done; all of those guys want to be stars immediately; all of those guys worry about playing time.
The difference between Warren and them, to me, is twofold:
1) Willie doesn't hide it. Here's a fun exercise: find as many player interviews as you can watch. Look at how many say they'll base their decision on "academics," "relationships," or some similar nonsense. A huge portion, if not the majority, say that. And that'ss just laughable to me; hell, even guys with huge academic troubles in easy school systems (Courtney Fortson and Leonard Washington come to mind), will say this. I'd rather hear a player with NBA potential who is unashamed of his NBA aspirations talk about those, than a kid with a 2.4 GPA who routinely skips class and gets in legal trouble talk about academics.
I actually appreciate Warren's honesty. I'd rather someone tell the un-sugarcoated truth that sucks to hear, than the same old cliche lies that make you feel good on the inside.
2) Warren has a supreme amount of confidence. I have no problem terming it "cockiness" because that's really what it is. What I struggle to understand, though, is why some are so upset by this. Huge skills and huge egos go hand in hand, and when Warren says he's better than Lebron, or will spot Kobe 4 of 5 points, I laugh. There's been nothing to suggest that his attitude is deleterious to his play; in fact, he's actually a very unselfish player considering the jaw-dropping offensive talent he possesses. His cockiness doesn't seem harmful to me, it seems playful at worst.

And that's why I posted this. It halted my developing opinion of him somewhat. I think the quote about Kobe is especially indicative of his degree of seriousness. I'm not doubting that he truly does think he's darn good, and a legit one and done. But I think he also is able to have some fun along the way, and is eager to improve (ie. challenging arguably the best player currently, and giving him odds = bait.) I wonder if anybody was standing there when Willie said that?
Edited to include: My position on highly talented players and their "mental game"/ego/cockiness is this: I don't want a Rashad McCants. I DO NOT. But give me an M.J. type players any day, and I'm in no way referencing his physical abilities. I love it when I see a guy who is driven! Who believes in himself, and his team too. Who's not afraid to load up the boys, and carry 'em through the trenches (tough games). Give me Kevin Durant, MJ, or a Dwayne Wade any day of the week, because that drive is the essential nucleus to any great sports team, not a particular physical type of player (see DC's thread of prototypical players).

The statement he made about spotting Kobe 4 points going to 5 wouldn't have raised an eyebrow with me if he didn't make his true colors known by following it up with the refusal to take pictures with Kobe and Labron because he might be playing against them someday. I don't want that "me first" attitude on my team. Go to Baylor Willie or get some humility. I would take a comparable player with a more humble attitude than what Willie portrays any day of the week.

That's not really what the link said. He didn't "refuse" to take a photo, he just opted not to. I fail to see why it's important in either case. A kid thinks he might play in the NBA some day? Why is that a bad thing?

I agree.
I like that attitude, I'm sure the kid was joking, but even to make that suggestion in jest takes a lot of balls(confidence). I remember being young and thinking the sky was the limit, and seems like at that age anything could happen. Age and maturity will calm him down, we don't have to, I hope he comes to UK and we get to see the mind start leading the mouth. I'm not suggesting anything here, but all the great one's knew they were.

"he couldn’t bring himself to take a photo with him – in case he ends up playing against James one day." What does this statement indicate? I guess he just doesn't think a photo of him and Labron on his bedroom wall is cool enough as he is already light years ahead of him and ole Kobe right now as a high schooler. He is in for a rude awakening down the road and I wonder how he is going to handle it when he is playing against seasoned college players and he gets his hat handed to him. I wanted him to commit to the Cats when Coach offered him and it seemed like he would go ahead and do it. Now I get bad vibes the more I hear and it seems like there is something every other day even more outlandish than the last quote. Maybe he grows up when he leaves momma..maybe he won't. That is his business. Second guessing is mine I guess. Also, nowhere did I say playing in the NBA is a bad thing. I personally can't stand to watch it but hey, to each his own.

At this time I would say he is. Hes not jordan hes never tried or said he was. I watch a few hundred games a year and his all around skill is amazing to me. Im a Piston fan so dont bash me for loving him lol. But I hate when I see people usually yelling at me :P or I read Lebron is the next Jordan hes the best that ever played I hate that. In order for him to be as good as Jordan he should be able to beat Kobe. Kobe made him look dumb soo many times in the past few years its not even funny. Anyways ive starting rambling on again :)
Also I love that car in your avatar . Im working on getting a electric blue buty like that.

Gunsmoke, I didn't take it that way at all. I took it that he wouldn't want a "buddy/buddy" photo of Labron and him hanging on his wall if Lebron wound up being a competitor of his. Sort of like what Larry Byrd said about how he didn't understand how players could become good friends with players they knew they were going to be the enemy. I could be and am probably wrong. :shrug1:

Maybe I am missing something here since a couple of you spelled it different, but it isn't Labron. Lebron that is how you spell his name.

Kobe is the best in the world at this point. He isnt the best ever, but if Kobe and Jordan met right now and played a game, my money would be on Kobe because Jordan is WAY WAY past his prime and Kobe is hitting it right now.

Well of course.. but you put Kobe at the height of his career against Jordan at ANY time during his NBA career, Jordan will smack him around.

Minus the Washington years, which should have never happened, you're correct! Kobe is darn good, but Jordan was bad--a all the way

Also, I did not mean to yell at anybody with my opinion of Bryant; I just think he is and has always been highly overrated. And, yes, I think he thought he was better than Jordan......I'll bet he's the only one that thinks that!:icon_rolleyes:

Sounds like his Mom has talked some sense into him. I like his confidence if he can back it up consistently, but he definitely sets the bar high for himself.

You know the Liggins thing bumped us down on his list despite what he said here. We were at least in the top 5 before, now UL is ahead of us. I would be totally surprised if we get him now.
Has he made any visits to UK campus yet?
Funny how Baylor isn't even in his top 8.

No, said he will in August though. We'll move up then for sure. He'll like the facilities (assuming he thinks he needs to workout, lol)
