Just curious as to how everyone feels about resurrecting the Kansas-Kentucky series and making it an ongoing home-and-home situation.
Myself, given the history of both schools and the friendship between Bill Self and Coach G, I think it would be a very healthy rivalry and certainly wouldn't hurt either school.

I voted yes....actually I think I am the first vote...but anyway
I think it would be good, but do we have room for that since we already play a hefty non-conference schedule anyway?

Good point. There are some logistics involved and it certainly couldn't happen this season and probably not next season, but those things have a way of getting worked out.
I voted "yes," but to wait a couple of seasons. I want to be able to beat Kansas like they beat us on their court a couple of years ago.

selfishly i have to say NOT A CHANCE. I have to deal with stupid KU fans enough as it is without us losing more against them. I was glad when our 2 years were up and I hope it never happens again.

If we're going to add another big name school to our schedule, I'd like for it to be someone east of the Miss. river; perhaps Duke for example.

After you posted that I got to thinking. When was the last time we played one of the better schools from the west that was a scheduled non-conference game. I would like to play someone like an Arizona, USC or even Texas.
We hardly ever get a chance to match up with western teams...personally I think they are scared.;)

Gee whiz. How would like to live in Louisville and put up with all the stuff we have too? Seriously, I feel your pain. I get it at home 24/7 and at work pretty much all year.

Yeah I think that would be pretty rough to have the main rival. But on the plus side, Louisville hasn't been as successful at basketball like KU has. Plus we've handed it to Louisville recently. But either way, it sucks!

Have faith!
Wins cure all. You can't have a good rivalry if the pendulum doesn't swing the opponents way from time to time.

Yes to a home and home series, I think it's wonderful to pit two of the best programs against each, especially great for the health of college basketball. Keeps the traditions and history alive

Not all KU fans are stupid. We've got a good poster on here that goes by Rockchalk. I like reading what other fans think about our program, so please don't run him off.

RP, I started this thread out of curiousity and on a whim, but I tell ya what, that is an EXCELLENT suggestion! I hope if and when it comes about, they schedule it just that way.
Maybe the powers that be will read this thread and keep it in mind.:icon_mrgreen:;)

I voted no. I think three rivalries with big name powers,UL,IU and UNC are enough. What I would like to see is to rotate around with other big name powers a two game home and home series. That way we could play many other powers instead of being locked in to the same ones every season. Who of us wouldn't like see UK play a variety of teams like UConn,Texas,Michigan State,Duke and others in a two game home and home series. Of course I know Duke will never come to Rupp but that is their loss not ours.

I voted yes, after a couple of years. I do not want to get beat up on national television anymore. The past couple of years have been brutal to watch.

I voted yes, because I would like to see a little revenge enacted. I'd like humiliate them like they did us a few years back.

I think it'll happen considering Self and Gillispie are close friends, unless they're like the Klitschko brothers and refuse to fight/play each other.
The only concern is making the schedule too hard. Doing this without eliminating the IU, U of L, or UNC series would mean that UK would have a standing rivalry with one of the top teams in every other "BCS" conference except the Pac-10, which is going to mean 4 really tough non-conference games a year, plus whatever teams they play in the early season tournaments. And in recent years, even the cupcakes have been good teams from the mid-major conferences, like Miami, Iona, Ohio, UMass, and Santa Clara from the last two years. Even Missippi Valley State, who looked like the worst team UK played last year, almost made the NCAA Tournament.
I know we all like to thump our chests, get macho, and say "We're Kentucky. We only play the best." But if you get into too many long-term scheduling agreements, you run the risk of having a young team that needs a lighter schedule for chemistry, development, and confidence reasons that ends up getting their brains beat in 3 or 4 times on national TV, which can be hard to recover from, like IU and Michigan State from recent years.
So I'd like to add a KU series, but maybe just an isolated home-and-home 2-year deal and not establish a yearly game along the lines of U of L, IU, or UNC.

I think playing Kansas would be good for both schools however I am not sure about every year. Every other year maybe. With the number of conference games we play that leaves very few games left. I think most coaches want 1-2 "tune-up" games to get themselves ready and to also help smaller schools with the big check.
I think the IU and UL series should never go away..................I also like to see another in-state school being played (may or may not be a tune-up game).
Then there is NC............Do we keep them?

how 'bout living in Indiana?....talk about hatred....swimming in a sea of red and white IU fans....bobby knight worshippers....and UK haters....however you do see alot of UK license plates sprinkled here and there...not enough of course....
as far as not needing another rivalry....when has Kansas NOT been a rival?....any "elite" program is our rival regardless the way i see it....any team that's in the top 5 of all time wins is a rival....UNC, duke, IU, KU, UCLA (and really historically duke is questionable in some ways) will always in my mind be our biggest out of state rivals from a tradition/historical sense....heck, i look at every team we play as a rival....
I vote "yes." UK should fear no team.

I had thought about this a few weeks ago. One other thing to note is that right next to the new Sprint Center they are building the College Basketball Hall of Fame. For the games in Kansas City and Louisville I would split the tickets sales 75% to 25% for the home team so to speak. That would give both fanbases a chance to travel to some new and exciting places.
