As a fan, I think it's important to prioritize the things that are most important and not allow basketball or the love and admiration of Kentucky basketball to take over the things that should be more important: God, family, wife/future wife, work, education, etc.

I also think it's important to have some downtime here and there after the college season has ended. It can't/shouldn't be all about UK basketball/college sports/sports 24 hours a day. There needs to be some time away from it so there is no burnout. I have to do it every now and then myself (and not just with UK, but with almost every sport or interest that I have).

But I think this year could be considered a rare exception to this, for obvious reasons. I remember in years past where there wasn't a whole lot of chatter during the summer. Every once in a while we'd get some good news to chew on, but for the most part it was pretty slow. Coach Gillispie has given us a reason to keep the chatter going, and that's okay because it hasn't been like this in a while.

I think that some people can be fanatical about it, and let it consume their lives, which isn't good and it's not healthy, IMO, and I've teetered on that point before, but as I said earlier, it's important to prioritize and keep things in perspective.

Good point. It's like Kentucky fans' fervor has been in hibernation for a few years, and now it's awake.

And this is not a thing that's unique to UK basketball. Look at Alabama football. Notre Dame football. Football all around the South. Indiana basketball. And so on. Because of the Internet, fans are able to follow recruiting as if it is in itself a game. Some folks take it WAY overboard to the point where they'll let their happiness rest on some 17-year-old's decision, but those people shouldn't ruin the fun for those of us who understand this is all a game played by kids.

Great post Josh. In my opinion, many UK bb fans are over the line.

I agree, before I joined WCN I really never kept up with recruiting. Since I cant stay away from the computer, just ask my wife.:icon_lol: Coach G has given us all a reason to be exited, so my answer must be no. You can never LOVE UK BASKETBALL enough!:icon_exclaim:

somehow it's ok for UNC, duke, IU, UCLA (just to name a few) to be all hopped up about their teams and think they're the greatest thing ever but if
UK fans show an intense devotion to the CATS then heaven forbid stop the world it's the worst most unrealistic thing in the creation of mankind...and it's ok to think that john wooden, coach k, dean smith, bobby knight and roy williams are demi-gods and pictures of absolute brilliance, but for CATS fans to show deep loyalty to the likes of Coaches Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Smith and now Gillispie is over the top craziness....so we like the CATS and hang on every molecule of information and/or game played etc....so what?....heck, it's Kentucky basketball...live with it!....just cause we hang with our CATS no matter what it just burns them (them being the media and fans of teams that the CATS have whooped up on over the decades) they can't stand anyone not liking their sacred cows (i.e. the teams mentioned in the first sentence of this post)
