Really, what can you do but laugh at how miserable this man's journalism has gotten? Days after everyone who knows anything about the recruiting world knows that Aminu has committed to Wake, Tipton reports that he's down to 3 schools. Then, of course, inserts a completely irrelevant Tubby/Kentucky slam.
How does this man have a job?! The LHL is giving itself a terrible name by retaining a person with a clear and strong bias in the wrong direction, a lack of originality, and a penchant for mis- and/or outdated information. This reveals a lack of professionalism so stunning that it makes it almost impossible for any Kentucky fan to respect the newspaper in its entirety.

That guy needs to get fired. Seriously, why do they keep a guy that is clearly unpopular by the readers, and is oblivious to the sport he is supposed to be covering.
I don't think he knows what the internet is. He probably gets all his scoops over the "wire" or by telegram or something.
I wonder how much it would cost or if it could even be possible? To get an article in the paper on how bad his reporting is. Or an article on how bad journalism is in lexington or something like that. I think that would be really great if it were possible.

What's wrong with that story? Seems fairly positive to me.:shrug1:

but I have to agree with Bowling Green on this one. Other than being wrong about Aminu, I didn't think the article was all that bad. Am I just slow on the uptake today or something? It seemed pretty pro-Gillisipie and pro-UK to me.

I think that is the point. It was suppose to be a pro BCG article but still managed to work in a couple of totally unnecessary digs. He feels the need to say UK fans won't always like him and mentions some Pitino game where the fans booed that we eventually own. He just always seems to like to imply we are all idiots. Also, while not a dig, he interviews Cheeks of all people. Then goes on to imply the assistants are overpaid.
It wasn't terrible, it is just the vibe you always get from him. That he feels it is his spot to point out the negative. He comes off as very bitter and negative in every article you read.
He is becoming like Billy Reed. Not sure what happens to these guys as they age. Reed was a pretty good writer from most accounts when he was young, but he turned into a hack in his later years.

Okay, re-reading it from that angle, I can see your point, and you're quite correct. The digs weren't called for.
Still, I guess that'a about as close to responsible journalism we're going to get from him.
Oh, well..

A good journalist tells both sides of the story. That's what Tipton does in that notes column. Most of it is positive, but he mentions that other side of things as well.
That's called balance.

Balance in journalism is only a necessity insofar as it might be required, depending on the story, to get the whole truth across. Good journalism sports the truth, and does not seek balance for balance's own sake; that's called "appeasement." If the truth is pro-UK (UK wins national championship!), then that's how it should be reported. If the truth is anti-UK (UK pays recruits!) then that's how it should be reported. If the truth is mixed (UK wins tough game but Bogans is injured!) then that's how it should be reported. The modern obsession with "balance" in journalism is a reaction to the "biased media" claims of the last half century, and is no more a defense mechanism for self-conscious media establishments.
Thus, there's no need for Tipton to provide "balance" in every story, searching for negative things to implant in stories that have no relevant negatives. Even if there were need for balance, balance would demand that only relevant negatives be put in, which Tipton also fails to do. And finally, even if you uphold that balance is good for its own sake, and that it should exist regardless of relevancy, his stories are rarely even balanced to begin with: rarely is a positive found in his "negative" stories, though negatives abound in the "positive" ones.

Very well said.
He keeps his job by readership - part of which are hits on the internet. If you keep posting links to his garbage you're helping him keep his job.
Don't click on Kentucky.com if you don't wan't to support the Hurled misLeader. If you must read the articles, don't buy the paper - go somewhere and read it for free. Library - relative - newsstand - garbage - wherever.

I really do not see how he still has a job. Any two bit sports fan with an internet connection could do a better job than Tipton
