Pelphrey hopes Wildcat spirit rubs off on Razorbacks

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- John Pelphrey remembers his remarkable senior season at Kentucky, when the Wildcats shook off the cloud of scandal and nearly returned to the Final Four.

His first task as Arkansas' new coach is to help the Razorbacks' seniors reach similar heights.

"We've got six seniors, and we're going to work as hard as we possibly can to give those guys a special senior year," Pelphrey said Monday. "I know I had one when I played. Senior years are special."

Pelphrey took over at Arkansas in April after Stan Heath was fired, but this is no rebuilding project. The Razorbacks went to the NCAA tournament the last two seasons, and although they lost in the first round each time, they bring an experienced group back for 2007-08.

"With experience comes good decision making," Pelphrey said. "I believe that if we make a commitment to working hard and being unselfish as a basketball team, these guys will put themselves in a situation to compete at the highest level."

Arkansas basketball coach John Pelphrey says he hopes his six seniors can have as special a final season as he did when he played for Kentucky and the Wildcats finally shook off a cloud of scandal and nearly returned to the Final Four.

"We're going to work as hard as we possibly can to give those guys a special senior year," Pelphrey said Monday. "I know I had one when I played. Senior years are special."

Pelphrey's familiarity with the Southeastern Conference dates back a while. With Kentucky coming off probation, Pelphrey and the Wildcats made it to the Elite Eight in 1992 before losing to Duke on Christian Laettner's famous buzzer-beater.

The Hog fans were good sports at the SEC tourneys in Catlanta.
Their fans would cry out sui! sui! and we would shout back "AAALL the way home!"

Jon P. should do well, but not vs, UK.

Absolutely. Also, best of luck to Pelphrey UNLESS it's UK and Arkansas who are competing for the regular season SEC championship. GO CATS! GO BILLY G!
