Kentucky has some stiff competition for one of the top prospects in Tennessee for 2008, but the Wildcats have made a favorable early impression and hope to land a visit from Rodriguez Wilks this fall.

"I have an offer from Kentucky, and they're one of the schools I want to go check out this season," said the Smyrna High School standout. "They've been recruiting me almost as long as anybody.

"It all started when my brother went up there for a visit my freshman year. Joker (Phillips) was recruiting him, and even though he didn't end up going there, we liked it a lot. The coaches were all really cool, and they kept up with me ever since then. Joker came down to see me last year and he's really been recruiting me hard."...

WR Rodriquez Wilks (6-1 200) of Smyrna, TN caught 61 passes for 943 yards and 16 touchdowns and he's attracting a large amount of interest. He has about 15 offers including USC, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Wilks made no visits over the summer and said he has no favorite. But he's very interested in the Gamecocks. "Coach Spurrier Jr. and coach Spurrier, I like them, they're nice guys," Wilks said. "South Carolina is a great school, and they throw the ball. They stand real good with me." Wilks said he will take all five of his official visits before deciding, and he's undecided on those visits.

The summer is coming to a close for three-star wide receiver Rodriguez Wilks. The Smyrna, Tenn., prospect now is looking towards official visits this season. Has he scheduled anything yet?

"Recruiting has really slowed down since coaches can't text message anymore," he said. "I'll still give the coaches a call once in awhile, but mostly I'm just thinking about officials. I've got to set dates and go to some games. I'm planning to take all five officials during the season."

Before he can schedule trips, Wilks needs to narrow his list a bit.

"I haven't narrowed it yet, but I can tell you I'm looking at schools like Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, Michigan, Ohio State, Louisville, Kentucky and Georgia Tech to name a few. They have all offered me," he stated. "I like those schools because they all know how to play football, throw the ball and are well coached."..
