View Full Version : For You Fisherman
Leaving early Friday am for my annual winter smallmouth bass fishing trip to Dale Hollow lake. Three days of fishing from dawn to dusk, plenty of coffee, water and a few brews on the boat and as close to Heaven on Earth as you can get.
Going to try the Float-N-Fly technique for the first time, it's supposed to be deadly for clear water winter smallmouth. But if I don't catch a fish I still happy as a pig in mud. If I do any good I'll post a few photos.

I'm a frustrated fisherman, and a sucker for fishing gadgets and gimmicks. My father started me on this course. He carried a bottle of "Doodle Oil" in his tackle box - a strong-scented oil that you dipped your bait into. He swore it helped.
Here's my latest, just arrived in the mail yesterday: Fool-a-fish. Reportedly coats your bait with a UV light film that drives the fish wild! Can't wait to try it!

A buddy of mine and I once went out onto Dale Hollow and fished ALL NIGHT LONG! Didn't catch a single fish. As we came back into the dock at sunup, there was a bunch of boys sitting on the dock, bringing them in hand over fist...

I'm envious, dammit! :ggrin:
I've never been to Dale Hollow at winter pool.
While growing up we went to Dale Hollow every summer and camped out at a remote point in tents.
We always left out of Sulphur Creek.
My step-dad worked there for a number of years back in the late 60's and has some 8mm film of the marina at the time as well as when it sank after a storm.
It's been around 22 years since I've been down there.:(
Enjoy the trip and catch some big'ns! :thumbup

You can fish there if you want, but it aint much of a place.
This is where I want to go fish, LOL. I've always heard there were days like this and places that the fish did this. Haven't been there yet. I would bring the beer if these guys would take me with!:thumbup

Ed, Have (had) lots of family down at Dale Hollow Lake - grew up down there on the weekends. I still visit my grandparents parents old place when we go down.
After many a night sleeping on the ground at Dale Hollow, they now have a Lodge - go figure! Why didn't they have that when I was a teenager? :D
Small town with one stop light (I remember when they got that - the whole town was in awe!!) but one heck of a fun place on the Lake. Enjoy your time there! GL on your fishing!

Also, I need a house to go on this property so the next few months will be a busy time as I decide what to do.

Dale Hollow is where my dad used to go on most of his fishing trips. Sounds to me like a great place to go fishing.:thumbup
