Per Matt Jones:
The SEC Announced that UK men's basketball had five of its players make the All-SEC Freshman Academic Team last season, part of 38 total for the sports programs at the university. The list is below. As you can see, when it comes to the books, as in life…..dont mess with the Coury Flurry!
And oh yeah, looks like Dwight was able to get over not having a name on his jersey.
Mark Coury M. Basketball Pre-Management
Jodie Meeks M. Basketball Undergraduate Studies
Dwight Perry M. Basketball Undergraduate Studies
Michael Porter M. Basketball Pre-Finance
Perry Stevenson M. Basketball Undergraduate Studies

This is one trend I'd like to see continue!

Yup, only Jasper is not.
Having this many good students is nice given our potential scholly questions.

I mis-read this post initially. I thought all of them had majored in something like "Basketball Pre-Management" or "Basketball Pre-Finance."

I think you have to go to Georgia if you want majors like that.

"Question 5: How many points is a three-point shot worth?"
Still one of the funniest things I've ever heard ...

Freshmen doing well matters. Not too many electives Freshman year, almost all are core classes.
It gets easier into the future where there are several "known" electives people can use to pad their GPA. I wasn't an athlete but I never met a 3 hour "A" I didn't like ;)
We once sat down and figured it out, it would be possible to fail every course in one's major and take enough of these electives to still graduate and remain eligible.

Thanks for sharing, matt colvin.
Most of all, CONGRATULATIONS to these freshmen for their academic performance. WOW! Too, it's especially impressive since the first year of college is especially difficult for athletes as they try to combine athletic responsibilities with adjusting to college life and academics.
I promise that the following statement has nothing to do with Mr. Meeks' being a member here. I had just KNOWN that Jodie Meeks was going to be one of the players honored BEFORE I had read the list. :) Well, actually, I guess it does have SOMETHING to do with his reading here, for I would like for him to know that I had SO FELT Jodie's name would be there. :) Also, congratulations on your son's academic performance, Mr. Meeks, something I so value as a former educator.
Again, KUDOS to ALL the young men. GO CATS! GO BILLY G!
