Not only was that team loaded with talent, but they played team ball. They made the extra passes.
They got down in their stance and played defense.
Anthony Epps was a great player. He made the passes, he played the defense, and he didn't put shooting the ball on his shoulder, there was plenty of people around that could shoot. He made sure that he got the ball to them in the right spot.
Mark Pope, what can you say about Mark Pope? He gave his all, he hustled, and he banged around the inside.
Just think of these guys.
Epps, Delk, Pope, Anderson, Walker,McCarty, Shep, Walta, Mercer.
Wayne Turner did not make it off the bench.
I get goose bumps watching the end of that game.
What a great team that was.

I remember those days... I still have it on tape (along with the 98 game) and watch them from time to time. Man that was an amazing team! I hope that soon we will get another team worthy of mention in the same conversation as that one...

I agree with you 100% about Anthony Epps. And when he needed to shoot, he could put the ball right through the nets. I remember the game at Tennessee in his freshman year. (Pitino had suspended 3 of our players) AE came off the bench to hit two 3 point shots in a come from behind win for Kentucky.

I watched that game a few months back as I was transfering it to dvd from vhs. One thing I had forgotten was how poorly we actually shot the ball in that game, especially in the first half. Granted, we made some huge ones down the stretch (Delk's 3, Walter's tip-in), but for the most part, didn't really look like a "championship team". You take away the hype, importance, and drama of a title game, and that really wasn't a "great" basketball game. In the end though, we outplayed the opponent, which is all I cared about while running beer-covered down Euclid in 40 degree weather until 4am and it's all I care about now.

Watched it myself on Thursday before the evening shift. What struck me is that they didn't play their "A" game that night yet won the National Championship. What a truly amazingly talented team in all facets of the game.
