Vaught's Views: Sanders accepts reality

Randy Sanders isn't walking into a job where he knows he's going to be liked the way Kurt Roper did.
When Roper came to Kentucky as quarterbacks coach for the 2005 season, he took over the job former offensive coordinator Ron Hudson had before he finally resigned. Hudson had not only alienated most UK fans, but his offense had been one of the worst in the nation.
Roper, who coached Eli Manning at Mississippi, was a younger, more enthusiastic coach that said and did things fans, and players, liked.
When Roper accepted a similar position at Tennessee, UK coach Rich Brooks hired Sanders as the Wildcats' quarterbacks coach. Sanders had been the offensive coordinator at Tennessee until he took the blame for the Volunteers' woes last season and resigned, which opened a spot for Roper in Knoxville....

I still think UT's offensive woes was due more to spoiled prima donnas on the roster and a lack of discipline by fat Philthan Sanders.

I definitely agree with you that discipline was the issue with the 2005 Vols, but most UT fans seem to agree that Sanders is an excellent QB coach, perhaps not the best OC.
This sounds a bit like the enthusiasm I recall when we were in the process of landing that great OC from Kansas St, the father of one of the best offenses in the country. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens, huh?
But we certainly have to recognize that Brooks doesn't get lots of choices when it's so well known around the country how tenuous a hold the staff has on jobs come next season. Under these circumstances, I think he's done as well or better in hiring staffas he's done in recruiting players.

In a time when the program needs some positive news, I just don't see how this hiring can be negative for us.
I understand the need to be guardedly optimistic, though.

It's my understanding that Sanders will be the qb coach, not the oc.

You are correct.

I think that's it. He may not be a good play caller and nothing more. I think his credentials as a QB coach speak for themselves.

He should be a good addition to the coaching staff. I was happy when I heard we were getting him. If hew as good enough to Tennessee at some point in time, shouldn't he be good enough for us. He may thrive in this environment, plus it seems he is going to have some talent and different types of talen at that to deal with as far as option, pass, and dual threats. It seems like it was a good hire right now. If he isn't going to be calling the plays, there really shouldn't be anything to worry about because I remember someone saying at some point in time he was excellent with the QBs, just wasn't good at what play to call when.

Playcalling is an amazing art. It is amazing to me how good I could be at it and then how terrible I could be at it when playing on the PS/2. It was dependent on my mood. I have to concentrate, I have to be in a good mood, and I have to have a killer instinct to be successful.

The Randy Sanders hire will look even better if we get that qb from South Point, OH that he already has a connection to.

I only see this as being a good hire. While some don't care for Randy as an oc, he gets high marks as a qb coach. Also, considering that he comes to us from a team of ewe tee's stature (how I hated to type that), he should certainly give recruiting a boost; especially with qb's.

Anybody remember the Uzelac years? A 1st grader, with playstaion experience, could beat his *** in play calling. That man will forever go down, in my mind, as one of the biggest jokesin college football. The sad part is that UK is the punchline to that pitifull joke.
