Quarterback Andre Woodson and tight end Jacob Tamme of the University of Kentucky were named Friday to the pre-season All-Southeastern Conference football first team voted on by league media members.

Both players were also named to the first team by the league's coaches last week.

Four Wildcats were named Friday to the All-SEC second team by the media: wide receiver Keenan Burton, linebacker Wesley Woodyard, defensive back Trevard Lindley, and Rafael Little, who was chosen as a return specialist.

Despite the strong showing in the individual voting, the Wildcats were picked to finish in fifth place in the six-team Eastern Division, ahead of only Vanderbilt. Defending national champion Florida was the top choice in the East, with LSU the prediction in the West.

WOODSON, TAMME FIRST TEAM IN MEDIA BALLOTING

By Chip Cosby

Kentucky is boasting more star power than it has in years, and the rest of the Southeastern Conference has taken notice.

Six Wildcats were named to the pre-season All-SEC teams, which tied Florida for the second-highest total. LSU had seven players named to the squad yesterday at Media Days. It was also the highest number of Kentucky players to make the pre-season All-SEC team since media began voting in 1992.

Quarterback Andre Woodson and tight end Jacob Tamme were named to the first team. Linebacker Wesley Woodyard, receiver Keenan Burton, running back Rafael Little and defensive back Trevard Lindley were second-team selections. Little was picked as a return specialist.

Tamme was a consensus All-SEC first-team pick last season after catching 32 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns. Woodson is the league's leading returning passer (3,515 yards, 31 touchdowns) and has the lowest interception ratio in league history.

Burton was second in the league in pass receptions last season with 77 catches for 1,036 yards and had a league-high 12 TD grabs. Vanderbilt's Earl Bennett (82 receptions, 1,146 yards, six touchdowns) and Arkansas' Marcus Monk (50 receptions, 962 yards, 11 touchdowns) were the first-team selections at receiver.

Woodyard's first-team snub was surprising considering four linebackers were selected ahead of him despite the fact that he is the league's leading returning tackler (122, 7.5 tackles for loss). Tennessee's Jerod Mayo (83 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss) beat out Woodyard for the final spot on the first team by one vote.

Kentucky tied with Florida for second with 6 players voted to the All-SEC team. Both are right behind LSU who had seven. Florida is picked to win the East and LSU the West. Where's UK ranked you might ask? Fifth in the East and 9th overall. When I read this I just had to laugh.

There are going to be some really surprised folks in a few months.

YES! I love it! Too, that we were tied with Florida for second in number of players' making the team (and only one behind LSU) is quite impressive.

In regard to how we finish, though, the key is still staying healthy. Coach Phillips essentially said the same yesterday. IF we do, this team CAN BE in for a SPECIAL season. MAY IT HAPPEN!!! Also, PLEASE stay away from our Cats, Mr. Injury Bug!!! GO CATS!!!
