1) What I liked about Rich Brooks at this year's media days was the fact he did not use the schedule as an excuse for why he thinks his team may not perform up to expectations. Joker Phillips, on our show, said similar things in regards to the schedule. Fact of the matter is with 8 games, regardless of who is coming in as a visitor, the odds of pulling off the upset are always going to be greater. Playing in the SEC, it's always tough even if it is Mississippi State or Mississippi. Last year's slate was no joke, either. Yes, on paper the Wildcats should be underdogs in more games this season, but that means little to nothing when they strap on the helmets. With a home crowd behind you, Kentucky has no excuse but to be competitive in every game that the Wildcats play in.
2) UK sophomore Trevard Lindlay was a surprise second-team selection as the All-SEC media selections were announced Friday in Birmingham. This honor comes on the heels of the talented defensive back not being named on all three teams selected by the coaches. Kentucky desperately needs Lindlay to play up to expectations, as having a lock-down corner can create so many opportunities for the UK defense to be more aggressive in its blitzing packages. Looking forward past this season, it's odd to think that next season the Wildcats strength on its entire football team could be its secondary. How many times in the history of the program, can we say that? It's extremely impressive how the Wildcat coaching staff has been able to develop this traditionally weak part of its defense.
3) It appears that Lexington Catholic safety Winston Guy is just days away from verbally committing to the University of Arkansas, at least according to a recent report on Scout.com. The Wildcats were late in offering Guy, who ran a 4.35 forty-yard dash at Cincinnati's camp recently. The 6-foot-2, 175 pound safety was a standout at the Nike Camp in Purdue earlier this spring, which led to his offer from the Razorbacks. Kudos to their staff for being able to find Guy, after he only totalled 33 tackles as a junior at Catholic. Houston Nutt and his staff got in on him early and it appears they will capitalize with a verbal commitment. The Wildcats could still get a visit, so this recruitment is far from over regardless of whether he decides to make a decision now or not. The pressure to stay home might get a little bit tougher if the Wildcats perform better this upcoming season. With 8 home games, the 'Cats will pack the house with recruits every week, especially those from surrounding areas. That includes Guy, who will have plenty of opportunities to re-think his choice to the Wildcats.
