College coaches from all over the country have been calling Andy Burns in hopes of luring the incoming Rocky Mountain High School senior to their respective programs.
Now, they can quit calling.
Burns is headed to the Bluegrass state to play baseball at the University of Kentucky. He verbally committed Friday morning to the Wildcats.
"I didn't really want to drag it out any farther than I needed to," Burns said of the recruiting process. "I knew where I wanted to go, so there was no sense in putting it off any longer."
Burns chose Kentucky over Arkansas, Arizona State and Vanderbilt.
"I loved the coaches, and I've always wanted to play in the SEC (Southeastern Conference)," Burns said. "There's nothing I didn't like about it."
Kentucky seems like a natural fit for Burns, who was born in South Carolina and lived in Lexington, Ky., for four years before moving to Fort Collins when he was 8.
Of course, playing college baseball may never materialize for Burns. It is widely thought that he will be a high pick in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft next June.
