The fun starts Thursday.

Kentucky's football players report for duty Thursday. Real football players. Better football players. Confident players fresh from a rare eight-win, bowl-win season.

The coach will be there, too, Thursday. Momentum has replaced the hot seat as Rich Brooks' ride of choice. You'll recognize the head man. He'll be the one smiling.

Billy Gillispie won't be there Thursday. He'll be off recruiting and building a boisterous buzz. Everywhere you go, Billy Clyde talk rules the town. It's been 10 years since Kentucky had a new men's basketball coach. People can barely wait to see how the debut does.

While every year there is anticipation and excitement heading into a UK sports season, it's even more so this year, a mix of optimism and mystery, of acute anticipation. Maybe the most in almost 30 years...

There are some huge major differences between this year and those in the past he mentioned. Woodyard and Woodson and their respective units.

Clay, doing a comparison piece, is remiss, at best, by not pointing out the obvious contrast.

:thumbdn::thumbdn: from this corner, too. Is this column the best CLAY can do with UK FOOTBALL (not basketball) only a month away!

RV, in answering a question, Coach Brooks just casually remarked about "a couple of writers" in regard to their coverage of UK football. I sensed he did not feel their coverage was always fair (or leaning to the positive). Let's just say that I did NOT feel any love going their way, and bleedbluelady obviously noticed the same. I suspect there are more than a couple fo them, in actuality. I can certainly think of more than two who would fit the description. GO CATS! GO RICH!
