View Full Version : How hot is Guy Mo's seat at Baylor?
How hot of a seat is Morris sitting in at Baylor this season. Tell me what you think.....

I think he's financially way ahead of where he'd been at UK & the seat can't get hot enough to change that. That Balyor was a bunch of suckers is their problem.
he certainly hasn't done much, but I don't think they had super high expectations either. As long as he wins 4+ games this year I think they will give him another year. He won 5 two years ago and 4 last year. Not great, but they were terrible when he went there. He won 3 games in conference last year which is more than ussual. I don't think he will be there after next year though.

"but they were terrible when he went there.'
When he took the job there, he said he inherited better players at Baylor than he left behind at UK.

Winning 5 games against their schedule this year would be tough for them but I would think their fans know that. Next year's schedule isn't that much better as their out of conference foes are Wake Forest, Washington State and at Connecticut.
They hadn't won more than 3 games since 1996 (when they were 4-7) so he's ahead of the curve as of now. He's beaten Kansas State, Colorado (twice), Kansas, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, and lost some tight OT games. They hadn't beaten Texas A&M since 1985, Colorado since 1991, Oklahoma State since 1994, Iowa State since 1996, had one win against Kansas since 1998 and they had never beaten Kansas State previously. Add to that their first Big XII road wins, almost complete lack of conference victories previously, etc. and I would think fans there aren't disappointed right now. Morris has won 15 games in his 4 years there; they had won 13 games total in the 6 years prior, and had 9 wins in the 4 years before Morriss got there.
Morriss has pulled an upset or two each year he has been there and dropped a few tough OT games and so far that's been a major improvement. Whether the same thing (4-5 wins and an upset or two) will be acceptable to fans there for the next year or two, I don't know. It's certainly an improvement over how they were previously.
Baylor had a history of running out coaches quickly. I don't think they'll do that with Morriss. But my guess is that if he wins fewer than 10 games over the next two seasons there will be grumbling there, especially if the upsets dry up.
Who? Oh, you must be talking about that Texas fellow who coached Hal Mumme's recruits and recruited a grand total of two SEC caliber players.

Careful now. This man was supposed to be (and still is, in the minds of some) the saviour of UK football. Yeah, right..:icon_rolleyes:
I don't wish him anything bad and I hope he has a happy life, but his stint at Baylor blows holes in the notion some had that things would have magically been better if he had stayed with the 'Cats.
Given the way things played out, I think UK got the better end of the deal.

We will never know what might have been here. The man seemed like a good coach, but his recent failures at Baylor have cast some doubt. Even still, we will never know what he could have accomplished under our specific set of conditions. For example, with a bigger stadium and better facilities, could he have recruited better players? Perhaps he could have. I tend to lean on the side of pessimism with regard to his potential success here, however. In my opinion, the Baylor program does not seem much better now than it was.

My thought was that UK GAVE Morris a contract extension, he could've been shown the door with Mumme but was given a chance. When he got the Baylor offer, UK had no choice but to let him go. I say if he fizzles this year (4 wins or less) he's gone at Baylor.

"the Baylor program does not seem much better now than it was"?
Here's where Baylor stood before Morriss' arrival:
0-29 in Big XII play (.000)
0-24 on the road (.000)
0-37 all time Big XII road record (.000)
4-52 all time in the Big XII (.071)
They've gone from 4-52 (.071) to 7-25 (.219), in spite of the program having 12 returning starters on his arrival from a team that was outgained by 232 yards per game in Big XII play. Since Morriss' arrival Baylor has broken their 29 game conference losing streak, 24 game road losing streak and 0-37 all time Big XII road record.
You can chalk it up to Morriss being a good coach or his predecessors being awful, take your pick, but I don't think there's any question that Baylor is far better than they were before Morriss' arrival. That program was a worse doormat and more consistent loser in their conference than UK or Vanderbilt have ever been in the SEC.

If GM gets canned & Heggins retires, maybe MB would want RB to bring back GM as OL coach. WT?

Only if he wanted Morris to bring in few quality O-line recruits and work behind CRB's back to usurp him as UK's head football coach.

If anyone doubts RV, let me be the first to say RV speaks the truth. I know with no uncertainty it is the truth. I knew of it before Mumme's regime imploded as did RV. It would be a misjustice of epic proportions to bring back GM.http://www.wildcatnation.net/forum/images/icons/icon13.gif
