LEXINGTON, Ky. - The disparity between the number of University of Kentucky players named to the preseason all-Southeastern Conference teams (six) and where the Wildcats were picked in the preseason polls (5th in the East) was not lost on head coach Rich Brooks.

It was simply a reminder that one good season isn't enough to combat decades of futility that have characterized the program.

"Obviously the media recognized some of our players, but they still put Kentucky down in that familiar peg, at the bottom of the heap in the SEC," Brooks said Tuesday afternoon during the team's annual kickoff luncheon. "And until we change the culture by beating the teams we haven't beaten in a while, that's where we will be perceived."

Building off last season's success was a recurring theme as Brooks spoke to the roughly 500 UK football supporters gathered at a downtown hotel ballroom four days before the Wildcats are scheduled to hold their annual fan day at Commonwealth Stadium at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
