Folks,

Within the next couple of months, I need to replace the sliding doors on both ends of my barn. Just for illustrative purposes, they are currently all wood such as you see here.

They look nice when new, but the problem is these things are incredibly heavy and will eventually rot. So, what I want to do is come back with a treated wood frame, but then have the center panels made of some kind of plastic/fiberglass/????? panels. Can't be brittle, must be able to absorb some degree of wind, rain, etc., and must be able to be cut and trimmed easily, just like wood.

Ideally, I'd love to find something in 4x8 sheets like plywood comes in, but so far I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions? :icon_question::icon_question:

Why not get insulated steel sliding doors like such:

They're lightweight.

If the HardiPlanks are like the HardiBacker boards, it'll be heavy - as heavy as the wood doors you currently have. All their products are cement fibre mesh based.
Durable and water resistant for sure. But the weight will be about the same.

Yep, that's exactly what they told me. Thanks.
