It's been sweltering here in Montgomery for over a week now, and there seems to be no end in sight. Long term predictions say it will 100 or over at least through Saturday. Geez.

How's the weather at your house?

Below is an article this afternoon from the Montgomery Advertiser ......

For the eighth consecutive day, Montgomery matched or broke a record high temperature.

The National Weather Service indicated that Montgomery's temperature reached 103 degrees at 2:11 p.m. Monday, matching the record for that date set in 1874.

Starting Aug. 6, Montgomery temperatures have either matched or broken the record highs for each day's date, with temperatures topping out at 106 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A record for consecutive days over 100 degrees was also broken Monday. It was the eighth straight day for temperatures over the century mark in Montgomery.

It's been miserable here as well. And last week, the AC in our house stopped working. :icon_neutral:

Got it back up over the weekend though.

Maybe the heat and humidity have cooked my brain, but I love it. Now granted Larry, we up here in Kentucky haven't had it as bad as you in Alabama, but I still love this kind of weather. Nothing like working up a good sweat just walking to your car. I saw on the news tonight we have had 15 staright days of 90+ temps. The record is 18 days. Again, not as bad as Alabama and other such places.

It's hot, but I can deal with 95 degree weather much easier than I can deal with 15 degree weather. I can always dress for the weather in the summer, but in the winter when it's 15 degrees, it doesn't matter what you wear.

The humidity is ridiculous, though.

It's been hotter than a snakes *** in a wagon rut.

Having to park and walk 3 or 4 blocks to work sucks.

Last week when I would have to park in the garage at the hospital where my dad was, well, awful. It was a glass elevator with no vent and no AC. It had to bee 150 or more.

We have seen a lot of heat strokes at work the last week or so.

We had a bad wreck today and I had to direct traffic for about an hour. Nothing like wearing a dark uniform (and Vest) standing on the hot pavement. Add the dealing with those who are "challenged" when it comes to driving and following directions.

I am glad that most of the time I work 3rd shift.

We had heat advisories out and the heat index was up in the lows 120's. We just went to the beach to beat the heat. The water was nice and refreshing.

I remember those days when I lived in N. Myrtle. It would be unbearably hot, the sea breezes would still, and nothing but parking your beach chair in the water would bring blessed relief. My friends and I used to take advantage of the heat by playing the almost deserted golf courses--while others were in air-conditioned comfort, we'd be out risking heat stroke.

I really miss the beach, heat/humidity and all....

We had a few really hot days last week, peaking at 102 F in the middle of the week, but now it's cooled down a bit. But were looking at another round of hot days starting on Thursdays. People here complain, but I always tell them to count their blessings. They could live in Florence or Columbia--or even Montgomery ;)--places that are just unreal in August.

Any place would be hard pressed to be hotter or more humid in the summer than Macon, Tifton or Valdosta Georgia. I think that Middle and South Georgia wrote the book on the meaning of a "long hot summer."

I have no idea how many records have been broken already this month but I am rather certain that this will be the hottest August on record. If not, very darn close.

I hate the heat. Always have. Unlike Dwight, I much prefer the cold over the extreme heat. I don't think "I" can dress for the heat as he does. I can only remove so many clothes without getting busted and let alone laughed at. :icon_mrgreen:

When I lived in Alaska there was a couple week stretch that it averaged 40 below zero in 77/78. Even that wasn't too cold other than having to put a crank case heater on the car so it would start in the morning. Just had to add a couple layers of clothes. I probably wouldn't like it that cold though if I had to stay out in it all day but a few hours on the snowmobile at that temp is no problem. A few hours on an ATV in this heat OTOH would almost kill me.

My wife and I are polar (no pun intended) opposites.

She relishes the heat - loves triple digits. I like the cold - I can tolerate single digit weather much moreso than hot weather.

Jeff, when we visited Myrtle Beach in `97 the temps were at or above 100 about half of our stay. She was in absolute heaven. Anytime we visit the beach - whether it's Gulf Coast, MB, etc. - MB is the measuring stick. If the temps are not as near triple digits as possible, she always fondly remembers the moist oven that was MB.............

As of Sunday, it had been over 100 in northern Mississippi for the 10th straight day, second longest streak in memory. Just to prove I'm not a sissy, I went out and mowed my lawn (push mower, with a grass catcher) during the hottest part of the day on Sunday. Unfortunately, that did not impress my neighbors because not one of them so much as stepped outside where they could see me the entire time I was out there.

You had something to mow? Or were you merely sucking dirt into the grass catcher?:icon_lol:

It's been so hot in LaGrange I saw two trees fightin' over a dog on the way home from work the other day. :icon_mrgreen:

"You had something to mow?"

Yes, I do. A lush mixture of Bermuda, Centipede, and Zoysia grasses (with touches of crabgrass and nutsedge here and there). I also have had $175 water bills for each of the last two months.

I've considered Zoysia/Bermuda for my front lawn, but the current Ky 31 Fescue is more than adequate - no weeds or clover. I've held off on watering since I'm leaving for vacation Friday - don't want to come home to grass too high to mow. Fortunately I applied summer guard so I should be good to go. It's starting to brown, but it's far from death.

I've tried to plant fescue in my shady areas, but it grows in clumps with lots of bare spaces that kick up a lot of dust when I mow. Don't want to breathe in dust, so I water down that part of the lawn before mowing. Normally, a few minutes with the sprinkler will tamp the dust down for the rest of the day. Sunday I had the sprinkler going on that area for a couple hours, then waited an hour to mow. It kicked up dust something fierce when I mowed that area. Don't know whether the ground is so dry that any water just goes straight down, or whether it's so hot that the water is evaporating lickety split. I noticed that I barely perspired (or, more likely, the perspiration was evaporating immediately) when pushing the mower even though it was 101 degrees at the time.

It's way past the "dewy" stage. I told the girl at walmart the other day that I was hoping this isn't God's way of prepping me for the afterlife.

I praise the Lord for my inside job everyday, but especially over that last week and a half. I feel for you and your son. Be sure to take proper precautions in this ridiculous heat because it will get you before you know it.

I don't envy those on paving crews and roofing jobs, either.

I really feel for anyone who works outside in this heat and humidity. I used to build houses and know how miserable and draining this weather can be. I just ride my bike to the office (a 5 minute ride) and I'm dripping wet by the time I get there. I also feel sorry for all the college and HS football players out practicing in this heat. The schools with artificial turf have to be the worst, as that stuff gets scorching hot.
