Hello Cat Fans,
Rich Brooks spoke to about 700-800 UK fans to day at the annual UK Alumni Association Football Kickoff Luncheon. I've been to a lot of these and this one was packed. Some of his main points were as follows.
He loves the faith UK fans have shown over the years and it is now time to crank it up and turn out with the energy and enthusiasm that we all had at the Music City Bowl. He said when the team experienced the Cat Walk at the bowl and then when they saw and heard the 55,000 Cat Fans in the stadium it carried them to a new level. While the team was fired up and game ready they all took it to a higher level all because of us. I believe this too, if we can maintain the level of crowd enthusiasm we had at the MCB we will become a much tougher road game.
The surprise of the event was Keenan Burton and Marcus McClinton were on a live TV feed from the 50 yard line in Commonwealth Stadium. They danced, sang and answered a bunch of questions from the crowd at the luncheon. They were a real treat. Burton has a great future in what ever field he choses. McClinton could be a superstar entertainer if he never earns a paycheck in football.
Brooks talked about players who have really stepped it up. Three that come to mind are Jarmon, Peters and Mo Grinter. He said Grinter has really stepped it up and will see a ton of playing time this season. I had not heard much about Grinter up to now and this was welcome news. At 6'-4" and 250 lbs. he will be a load.
Something that really pleased me was something that took place last week after the Freshman Students moved into the dorms. The UK Marching band did a march around campus and all the dorms and picked up a parade of students (not only freshmen). They then all marched together all the way into Commonwealth Stadium and filled the student section and then the cheerleaders practiced a bunch of cheers with them. The students each got a Big Blue Tee shirt and then went to the center of the field and a helicopter took an aireal photo of them in a UK Formation. This was a planned and advertised event and they said the students really turned out. Now that is the kind if student tradition starting event that I have been wishing for for many years. Maybe that will get the students kick started for this season. (That and a bunch of Saturday night games.)
If any of you WCN'ers were there today please chime in with your observations.
