Former Kentucky running back Arliss Beach worked out with the Dallas Cowboys and is poised to sign with the team. Beach is looking to join rookie running backs Jackie Battle and Alonzo Coleman, both of whom are battling injury issues for the practice squad roster position.
The Cowboys watched Arliss, Wednesday, during practice. Beach, a second-year back, spent last season on Green Bay's injured reserve but was released on May 5 of this year. The Cowboys roster will be cut to 53 on Sept. 1. There is little chance that Beach will make the roster at running back in two weeks, with Dallas returning a talented trio of Julius Jones, Marion Barber and Tyson Thompson in the backfield, but should Beach make the practice squad he could making some serious dough, regardless.
Beach had an up-and-down career at Kentucky. He started as a freshmen on special teams as a kick returner on the 2002 team that ended up finishing 7-5. He split carries in 2003 with a plethora of backs that included Draak Davis and Alexis Bwenge, but was still the team's leading rusher. In 2004, he fell behind incoming freshmen Rafael Little and Tony Dixon and never recovered. Even so, the running back still made the Packers active roster, last year, after graduating. He was released from the Packers in the spring, however, and Beach has been working out full time trying to return to the NFL.
