For any refs out there:

At the Marion Co/West Jessamine game a MCHS player ran the ball 56 yds for a touchdown. As he was going into the endzone, he "showboated" by diving into the endzone.

Flags flew, Unsportsmanlike penalty was called. The TD was taken away and the ball was placed 15yds back from the original line of scrimmage.

Shouldn't the TD have counted and the ball spotted on the extra point/kickoff?? There were no other flags on the play.

It didn't affect the eventual outcome, just curious if there has been a rule change for unsportsmanlike conduct.

nevermind.....I just found out there was an "inadverdant" whistle before the play. So the play was blown dead. Of course the penalty probably should have been waved off, since the play never really happened.

There are several things described here that just don't add up.

1. If the TD was scored on a legal play, the TD would have counted and the unsportsmanlke penalty would have been marked off on the extra point.

2. If there was an inadvertant whistle was blown before the play, they would bring everybody back and replay the down from the orginal line of scrimmage.

3. If the inadvertant whistle was blown during the play, the ball is dead immediately and the defense has the choice of accepting the play, or replaying the down from the orginal line of scrimmage. In this instance of course, the defense would do the latter and replay the down. My question is, are you sure the ball was moved back 15 yards?
