LEXINGTON, Ky. – With football coach Rich Brooks set to hold his first game-week news conference of the season, the University of Kentucky released its first depth chart since before practice began.

There are few surprises for the Wildcats, but a number of position battles appear to have been settled.

Dominic Lewis will start at the defensive end spot opposite Jeremy Jarmon. That spot had belonged to Nii Adjei Oninku heading into fall camp, but Oninku suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice.

Paul Warford is the listed starter at one cornerback spot, opposite second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection Trevard Lindley. Warford had been in a battle with fellow sophomore E.J. Adams.

On offense, sophomore John Conner edged out sophomore Maurice Grinter at fullback.

First - Who is Joe Fischer? He's listed 2 string LT and 3rd string RT. I can't find him on any of the recruiting lists. Never heard the name. Is he a transfer? Walk-on?

Second - James Alexander is now 4th string LT? What a drop.

Third - Durham and Hines are either very talented or else we won eight games last season with a patch work OL? Because they've moved ahead of some veteran players.

Fourth - BJ Wideman DE? Transfer? Walk-on?

Beets & Winchell -- both third team. How disappointing that is.

Coach Brooks just said that Fischer had taken a year off from football and came back during the spring. I, too, had been surprised to see him second on the depth chart. Like SBCatMan, I have been disappointed to see both Beets and Winchell third on the depth chart.

In regard to Alexander, the problem is that he is having problems with his back. Coach Brooks said that they are hoping his back reacts to a third (I believe it was) epidural. Let's hope so.

They list only 10 positions on offense - no center. Wonder how they expect us to snap the ball? :icon_rolleyes:

They must have copied it off the updated UK Athletics site & missed it as Scott/Jorge/Davis are listed as C depth there.

Fourth - BJ Wideman DE? Transfer? Walk-on?

Alexander has been hurt.

Why are you surprised? UK has not had any luck with JUCO OL. Why would this year be any different?

He's a walk on originally, from Northern Kentucky.

Originally a walkon at Tight End (there's that TE to O-line thing again). If you follow the NFL draft you will know that most LT's taken in the draft and that are successful in the pros were former TE's.

Second - James Alexander is now 4th string LT? What a drop.

James is battling back trouble and the staff hopes he can be ready for this season. He really needs a RS year but with our depth having been so shallow it's unfortunate he's had to play and unless this back deal keeps him out this year, he will likely be pressed into service again this season.

Third - Durham and Hines are either very talented or else we won eight games last season with a patch work OL? Because they've moved ahead of some veteran players.

Hines is just listed at 2nd team for practice (and motivational) purposes but CRB said yesterday he probably won't play this year. We cross train on the O-line and we have plenty of options at guard.
72 Zipp Duncan 6-5 285 RSSo.
66 Jason Leger 6-1 290 RSSr.
78 Christian Johnson 6-4 320 Jr.
64 Josh Winchell 6-3 315 RSJr.
73 Jess Beets 6-2 290 RSJr.
68 Michael Williams 6-6 290 RSSo.
71 Marcus Davis 6-1 280 RSFr.
70 Stuart Hines 6-5 280 Fr.
63 Jake Lanefski 6-4 270 Fr.

Durham is a big good-looking prospect that has impressed the staff enough to win the backup job at RT and will play this week. We aren't as deep at tackle but here's who would see extended action if push came to shove.

79 Garry Williams 6-3 290 So.
76 Justin Jeffries 6-5 315 So.
72 Zipp Duncan 6-5 285 RSSo.
75 Brad Durham 6-5 310 Fr.
71 James Alexander 6-6 285 So.
74 Joe Fischer 6-6 290 RSJr.
58 Phillip Hibbard 6-7 300 Fr.
68 Michael Williams 6-6 290 RSSo.
59 Eric Scott 6-5 295 RSSr.
64 Josh Winchell 6-3 315 RSJr.
52 Billy Joe Murphy 6-7 280 Fr.

Fourth - BJ Wideman DE? Transfer? Walk-on?

BJ is a walkon and may see some action against lesser lights but the snaps will go the these guys against SEC competition.
99 Jeremy Jarmon 6-3 275 RSSo.
20 Dominic Lewis 6-3 265 RSSr.
90 Jamil Paris 6-5 240 So.
94 Travis Day 6-3 275 RSSr.
95 Ventrell Jenkins 6-2 285 Jr.
93 Austin Moss 6-0 260 RSSo.
and maybe
45 Antwane Glenn 6-4 250 Fr.

We know this can't be true as LV dumped him. Just ask their fans.

DE is the position that concerns me the most.

We know what we get in Jarmon and Lewis. Paris missing spring really hurt his progression and at 240-245# it seems he did not have a successful season in the weight room.
