The University of Kentucky baseball coaches tried to make each and every start Elizabethtown senior Sean Bouthilette made, whether it was during the high school season or summer ball.
Their dedication paid off when Bouthilette informed Kentucky head coach John Cohen and associate head coach Gary Henderson, who were visiting Bouthilette at his home Wednesday, of his decision to play for the Wildcats. Bouthilette gave Kentucky a verbal commitment, but he can’t sign a national letter of intent until November.
“They were pretty much always there at all my games that I pitched,” Bouthilette said. “They were there at all my high school games and they came to almost all my summer games. It showed they wanted me. I really liked the coaches. They came to see me the most and it really was the best place for me to go.”
Bouthilette, a hard-throwing right-hander, had narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Mississippi.
“It was really hard,” Bouthilette said. “A lot of things went into my decision like what I wanted to do with my life after baseball, how many years I’d get to play, and certain coaches that I liked. It was a difficult choice, but I felt like Kentucky was the right choice for me.”
