1) The news of former UK quarterback Tim Couch is troubling to say the least. Always considered the son of the state, the story that alleges Couch of involving HGH in his recovery from injury is disappointing. Football players generally get a free pass when it comes to performance enhancing drugs. From suspended defensive end Shawn Merriman of the Chargers to the Panthers pre-Super Bowl steroid binge, America generally looks the other way when it comes to football players, but for some reason ESPN and Yahoo.com, which broke the story, has made this a huge deal. Most likely because Couch was honest with his involvement, as opposed to just denying or not responding to the accusations. For Couch, it tarnishes what was a treasured name. I'll reserve judgment until all the facts come out, but from the documents presented and Couch's admission of HGH use, this doesn't look good.
3) Wesley Woodyard was named to his fourth preseason national award watch list, this time being picked for the Butkus Award list for the top collegiate linebacker. I hate to single out Woodyard, but where would this football program be without Woodyard's signature four years ago? In addition to his efforts on the field, he also helped bring Braxton Kelley, Demoreo Ford and Randall Burden to Lexington. The leading tackler this past year made it cool to head north to Kentucky and has put this program on the map. This is his year to be honored as much as anyone else.
5) As discussed on Kentucky Sports Radio, Tuesday evening, fans are asked to arrive at the Cat-Walk at 3:45 PM. The Cat-Walk was monumental to the Wildcats defeat of Clemson in this past year's Music City Bowl. Don't let the momentum generated from this past year's bowl win pass the fan-base by. Show up loud and proud near Gate 1 at 3:45 PM and show your support for the UK Football program on Saturday against Eastern Kentucky.
