Sagarin doesn't mean jack until everything is connected.

That's pretty true, jb, particularly the jack part. But can't figure what JS uses to get us down to 60 when we finished 28 last season.

Same reaction here, gerntz. That makes NO SENSE to me. Yes, the ratings mean nothing, BUT what reasoning could be behind putting us down to 60 from 28 while returning eight starters on both sides of the ball? Go figure. :shrug1: GO CATS! GO RICH!

Schedule. Period.
This team could go 5-7 with losses to all Top 25 teams.

I don't even want to think of that possibility. YET, it is technically an accurate statement. Our schedule is extremely, almost unbelievably, difficult (although I plan on our pulling some upset(s):icon_biggrin:).
Having said that, I did not think (or realize) that Sagarin ratings were a projection of how a team would finish the season. Also, IF we were only to lose to five teams in the top 25 in very close games, how could we end up ranked #60? It still does not make sense to me. GO CATS! GO RICH!

I seem to remember reading a long time ago, in the mid-90's, about how Sagarin did his preseason rankings and I think it did have something to do with returning starters. I also think it had to do with YARDS gained/given up. Well, we didn't do very well there.
Sagarin, at the time, lamented that there really wasn't a good way to do it. Every formula he came up with to try to predict seasons sucked, he said.
