University of Kentucky defensive tackle Ricky Lumpkin, who has a hip injury, will miss "a significant amount of time," Wildcats coach Rich Brooks said today.
Lumpkin aggravated an old injury, Brooks said, in last Saturday's victory against Kent State. Lumpkin will not require immediate surgery, but Brooks said surgery might be required in the future.
Lumpkin might not be the only UK tackle unavailable on Saturday, when the Cats host the University of Louisville at 7:30 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium.
An MRI exam on Myron Pryor revealed a "significant strain," but no tear in a pectoral muscle. Pryor is "questionable to doubtful," Brooks said, for the U of L game.

Lumpkin's pain must be real rough.

Lets throw Christian Johnson's 330+ in there at DT on 1 & 10 & see them move him - or be moved on a straight ahead bull rush. He's a wastin on the bench now.

Christian is sharing the snaps with Zipp at LG getting almost half of them.
At DT we still have:
Peters - Jenkins
Day - Craigman
McCord - Moss
While it's no small thing to have to play without Pryor and Lumpkin we are MUCH deeper than in the past at all positions. We are finally a legit SEC team. While I wouldn't rule out a player moving positions I don't look for it to happen.

I am usually pretty quick to pooh-pooh position changes suggested by fans, but the move of CJ to DT in certain situations might actually merit some consideration. I would feel better about it if our two JUCOs were doing better than they are and if it were not just a few days before the UofL game. Still, in a goal line situation ... who knows?

Wouldn't Jason Leger getting snaps at DT make more sense than CJ?

Well, yes, except that Leger has proven to be more vaualble on the OL than CJ at this point. Leger was SEC OL of the week last week.

Boy, I have to wonder if Brooks wanted CJ at 330?

I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times during the past 40 years that UK has had a pair of starting DTs as good as Peters and Jenkins. Wish Lumpkin and Pryor and Abren were available, but Peters and Jenkins are better than what UK has started most seasons.

Didn't notice that bout CJ. Thanks.
But he's not doing anything when we're on D. :-)

I heard tonight on 1570 in Louisville that Pryor was upgraded from doubtful to questionable...perhaps he will get some reps afterall???

How I HOPE so!

Actually, if there's a chance of aggravating the injury or extending his recovery time I'd like to see him sit this one out. While I would like to beat the birdies as badly as anyone (maybe more) we may have bigger fish to fry and I think the staff can overcome this problem against the cards by scheme on D.

Looks like Brooks announced that Pryor will play this weekend, although he won't start.
