Anyone who saw Middle Tennessee tear through Louisville's defense Thursday has to wonder if Kentucky running back Maurice Grinter (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=169651) isn't right.

"They got exposed," Grinter told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Those are fightin' words, especially for a guy who gained minus-1 yard against Kent State two days later and saw his team's defense get exposed, too, as it surrendered 324 rushing yards.

But the point is well-taken (if you're not from Louisville, anyway) and perhaps can be extended to this: It was hard to imagine No. 9 Louisville playing for a national championship -- or even a Big East championship -- as you watched Middle Tennessee traverse Papa John's Cardinal Stadium like an Olympic track team.

If you looked closely enough, you might have seen the Blue Raiders passing a baton, not a football, on their way to 554 total yards and touchdowns of 78, 23, 24, 39 and 79 yards.

Three of their scoring "drives" lasted fewer than 45 seconds.

Louisville-Kentucky (11): Cardinals lead the nation in scoring offense at 65.5 points per game. Wildcats are seventh at 53 ppg. And neither team has played a lick of defense yet. First team to 60 wins? First team to punt loses? You've got to stop somebody to be taken seriously in college football; is one of these teams ready to step up and do that?

UL's defensive performance was simply pathetic. It "ain't" good when the broadcasters are calling out the UL defensive players for quiting on more than one play. Heck, even Howard got a quip in when he stated while being interviewed, "I had no idea our defense (FAU) was that good."

Getting beyond that what is very interesting is the JUCO's and transfers that were supposed to make an immediate impact haven't seen the field. Those would include Willie Williams (LB) and Woody Turenne(CB).

Neither Willaims nor Turenne are in the dog house, both had outstanding fall's but aparently can't figure out where they're supposed to be on the field.

This is a fairly common problem, at least what I have seen. You have really good JUCO's come in and it seems to take them the first half of their first year to get acclimated to Div 1 football. After that, they usually do well.
