Either I thumbed a ride in Doc Emmitt L. Brown’s DeLorean or somehow ended up in Dr. Sam Beckett’s time accelerator.

There’s just no other feasible explanation.

I could have sworn that just a few days ago, a big football program in this state hosted a mid-pack team from a smaller conference and watched as the invited sacrificial lamb torched the defense over and over and over again. But it was OK, because home team’s offense was more than up to the challenge to bail out its miserable defense. That did just happen, right Planet Red?

And yet this occurrence happened again on Saturday night, moving the locale 80 miles or so to the west and subbing the Louisville Cardinals for the Kentucky Wildcats and the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders for the Kent State Golden Flashes.

The easy explanation would be to say the Wildcats were overlooking the third (on a good day) or so best team from the Buckeye State as they started slow before routing the Golden Flashes, 56-20.

After all, the Wildcats do have some kind of important contest in Week 3.

WHat I don't understand is how a lot of folks treat Louisvilles defensive performance as an anomole but treat ours as though its a chronic problem. I keep hearing " the Louisville Defense you saw a week ago won't be the same defense we'll see this week." And while I don't disagree with that sentiment, who's to say it doesn't apply to us either. Last I checked Our total defense is pretty darn good and we are top 10 so far in passing defense. UofL presents a different set of problems for us to face from Kent, and whos to say we won't fare better facing a more conventional offense?

I think this game can go either way. If the defense that played against Clemson, UT and UGA last year manages to show up this year, then we have a very good chance to slow down the UofL attack enough to win. While we may not see the same UofL defense this week, they may not see the same defense out of us either. this game is just as important for our guys as it is theirs.
