Sorry if this has been discussed, but as a Vol I am quite curious. Do the goalposts come down if UK wins?

No offense but not in a million years. If we win and somebody heads for the field for that purpose then I am going to lasso them very quickly.

None taken. I was just a little surprised when they came down against the Dawgs.

I am not a huge fan of goal posts coming down, but I felt that the UGA game was a warranted vandalization. We had not had a signature win since the inception of the Brook's era, and when we finally did it, then it was permissable in my opinion.
This year, we would have to beat an LSU or UF to bring them down in my opinion. I think we have a tremendous shot at beating the Vols this year, but unfortunatley, I don't think that they will even ben in the top 25 by year's end. Thus, the goal posts coming down for that game would be unwarranted.

1. Still on the fence about that. It was a shock to me, so I won't be surprised if it happens with a win over U of L.
2. I think a win over UT ending years and years and years of futility warrants the goal posts coming down. I like you have my doubts about UT being in the top 25 or bowl eligible for that matter. Much like UK, the Vols have a very important game this weekend. Both teams have a chance to maintain national relevance with wins.

They our little brother. We should be beating them, at least more often than they beat us. Let's not lower ourselves. I have too much pride (albeit false) for that.

The only way I would be happy with the goal posts coming down versus UT, would be if they somehow hovered in the top 20 area. What if this scenario arose, however: The Cats beat UL, Arkansas and USC, and become extremely relevant before that game. I don't think that scenario would be conducive for those goal posts coming down. Inversely, if we lose all three (heaven forbid), then it may be a nice pre-bowl party.

PLEASE, NO... We'll take 'em down after we beat Florida... Louisville is NOT a worthy goalpost tearer-downer.

I agree, John.
But, college students love being part of a "moment". If we beat Louisville, you can bet that there'll be a substantial number of people on the field trying to take those things down.

As a student and a fan, we always wanted that one game that we could celebrate by bringing the goal posts down. IN THE RIGHT SITUATION, I think that the goal post tradition is incredibly fun. As a young fan who had sat through so many "coulda, shoulda, wouldas" at Commonwealth, it was fun being no the field after the UGA win last year. I have no problems with the fans being on the field after the game in the appropriate situation.

I saw a game this last week on tv where they had installed hinged goalposts that laid down flat. I don't know what they cost but I would think the SEC schools that risk large fines will be installing these over the next few years.

Absolutely not. It's not been that long ago since we beat them and we still have the overall lead in the series.

Philosophically, no, you donīt take them down for Louisville, ever.
Realistically, we have the collapsible goalposts, now, so they wonīt come down again.

If LSU moves up to #1 when they come here, that would be a goal post worthy game. Unfortunately the Commonwealth Stadium grounds crew would take them down first.

Again, what are they going to pull down? Itīs impossible with the collapsible kind.
If we have another on-field incident within the next few years, the fine for UK will be pretty darn stiff, as I understand.

If allowed, just go on the field and celebrate with the kids. You know this game means the world to all the seniors. Last time, last chance. Protect the Commonwealth, this is OUR house!!!!!

You are right we already have one strike for the UGA game, next strik would be a stiff penalty and I think the third some serious things could take place that we dont need.
EDIT: Ive been trying to find the specific rules on what the violations and penalties are but havent come up with anything.

I would say the Tenn and Fla games are goalpost games before UL. UK beat UL five years ago....regardless of ranking, this is not a goalpost game.
Sorry if this has been discussed, but as a Vol I am quite curious. Do the goalposts come down if UK wins?
The goal posts come down every game - win or lose. They're collapsible.
And no - ul is not a goal post game. Would you celebrate if you walked through a cow pasture and made a misstep?

Yes they did, and my guess is that should UK be up close to the end of the game, the goalpoasts will be ringed with security.
Also, I think they've (the grounds crew) have been practicing getting them down as quickly as possible after the game. The last two games, they've been collapsing them at the same time the coaches and players shake hands.

I'll go so far as to say, "Don't even rush the field when we win."
It's UofL, for cryin' out loud. Give the team a standing ovation, walk calmly back to the tailgate, and then start partying like crazy.
The real season starts next week.

1. We can't tear the new kind down.
2. That sucks.
3. SEC is the college version of the No Fun League.
4. I have taken too many tests lately, and that's why I have numbered everything. :tongue3:
(Just as a note, UK CAN afford goalposts. Pretty ridiculous to say otherwise, IMO. Another way to try to make the game way too serious and less fun. Sports are GAMES. ENTERTAINMENT. FUN.)
How many people have died being trampled in a celebration in the U.S.? I sure don't think it's an epidemic. Just another example of the fear people have in America now that are more trouble than they are worth.

Wait.. (Just thought of this)
Take the Nets that catches the ball after a point after attempt
and round up all the security guys.. THEN Put the goal post up ...then we tear them down

Well a couple of things.
ONE- being from louisville and going to UofL and hearing crap all the time about how great they think they are... I for one will be on the field if we beat UofL
Two- UofL tore down one of there goal post (collapsible) during last years win against West Virgina. The fields crew will let them have one goal post b/c they probably can't get to both at the before the crowd gets on the field.
Just keep in mind though... we might THINK we are better than UofL.... but the rankings say it all. UofL is a top 10 team.... and we haven't beat one of those teams in more than 20 years. This my friends is NOT an everyday occurrence, thus a party on the field would be A-okay in my book
