GAME NOTES: The 21st-ranked Kentucky Wildcats are coming off one of the biggest wins in program history, and they will attempt to carry the momentum into this weekend's SEC clash with the Arkansas Razorbacks. Kentucky has earned a spot in the AP poll for the first time since the 1984 season, thanks largely to a 40-34 victory over rival Louisville last Saturday. That victory marked the program's first triumph over a top-10 team in 30 years. The 3-0 start for the Wildcats is their best since winning four in a row to start the 2002 campaign. Arkansas opened the season with a 46-26 victory over a solid Troy squad. After a week off, the Razorbacks returned to action last Saturday against Alabama. In what turned out to be a tremendous matchup, the Hogs dropped a heart-breaking 41-38 decision, and they hope that four straight home games will be just the remedy needed to get over the painful setback. Kentucky and Arkansas have met on four previous occasions, and each team has two victories in the series. These squads are meeting for the first time since an unforgettable 2003 battle that required seven overtime periods to decide the outcome.
Kentucky quarterback Andre Woodson is no longer simply a player or even a standout. The signal caller is a major star, and he proved so last week against Louisville. Playing against an opponent that has embarrassed his 'Cats in recent years, Woodson connected on 30-of-44 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns. Kentucky trailed in the final minute of the tilt when Woodson tossed a 57-yard touchdown pass to Steve Johnson. In the win, Woodson became the SEC's all-time leader in consecutive pass attempts without an interception with 257 and now needs to add just 14 more to that total to reach the NCAA all- time mark. He was also named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Kentucky is racking up 48.7 ppg and 504.0 ypg thanks to a balanced attack which features over 245 ypg both on the ground and through the air. Woodson has completed 68.4 percent of his passes and has thrown nine touchdowns. His top receiver, Kenan Burton, has a sprained ankle that puts his status for this weekend into question. As for the ground attack, versatile tailback Rafael Little has posted 388 yards on only 52 carries to lead the way.
