View Full Version : LOVE for Wesley

I began a thread about Keenan Burton a couple of days ago. As I said then, there are so many fine young men on this football team. There's an especially fine group of seniors that includes Burton. On offense Andre Woodson, Jacob Tamme, and Rafael Little come to mind. Those four young men merely HAPPEN to be our arguably best four offensive players. I honestly love all of them for the PEOPLE the are. :)
There is another Cat who simply must have a thread of LOVE, though. That fine young man is defensive leader Wesley Woodyard. In my opinion, there is NO player who will be missed more next season, both on and off the field. That's because of his EFFORT on the field (28 tackles in the last two games) AND because of his personality and charisma that have played such a huge role, off the field, in getting top players to become Cats (and anyone who has missed Wesley's enthusiasm and love for fans, especially the little kids, at Cat Walks, has missed something special). I thank no player for our turnaround more than I thank Wesley. Yes, he gets my vote for most deserving in that regard. :)
You gotta LOVE offensive player Keenan Burton! You also gotta LOVE defensive player Wesley Woodyard! I know that the season has barely begun, but I honestly already tear up when I think of Senior Day this season. Continuing the honesty, I don't think there could be a finer group of senior leaders, on and off the field, anywhere. Thank you, Wesley, the LEADER of that fine group of leaders. :)

Wow, I had not thought of Senior Day. That will be an emotional experience no doubt. I echo your comments about these oustanding young men.

I think I read on another thread that Wesley had 3 times as many tackles than any other UK player for this season. He has been a leader among leaders, both on and off the field.:widcat:

You could begin a post on every Senior on this Kentucky team, and all would be filled with superalatives, because all of these youngmen are so very special in their own unique way.Exceptional athletes, and above all, exceptional youngmen.I hope the stadium is filled to capacity the rest of the season. These players deserve it.
This is indeed the most 'lovable' group of footballers that I've known at UK in all these 60 years of following the Cats. And I think they truly unselfishly love each other too---it just shows through in their comments and actions.
I'm reading lately that young Ulinski who is an outstanding high school OL says things like he hasn't decided between UK and UofL and he's mostly waiting to see which one looks like the best team. Even though his grand dad played at UK years ago.
I guess it's alright for him to feel that way. But it just adds to my appreciation of our seniors. These youngsters came to UK when things were very bleak. Little talent, NCAA come-down (on our heads), a "Tired Old Coach", a losing history with no real tradition, etc. They came to try to build something out of the ashes that UK football had become. And like the Phoenix, they have risen. Much like the Unforgettables who stayed when things got so tough in basketball, these guys won my heart and I'll always remember them for that. Not only because they were largely successful, but because they came during such trying times. And there are others in addition to the seniors. Dicky Lyons and so many others--too many to even try to name. I bet God loves them too.

AMEN to that! Too, all the seniors, in particular, SO deserved that victory over Louisville (and deserve a full and LOUD stadium the rest of the season, including Senior Day, as you say). :)
By the way, I had started the thread on Keenan because of the recent especially high praise about him as a young man. Then I decided to start one on Wesley after reading about how hard he is recruiting for next year's team, even though he himself will be gone next season, AND thinking a defensive player also deserved a thread. :) You're right, though. EVERY senior is special and deserving of a thread. They are indeed ALL special, and I hope there is a separate thread for each of them before Senior Day. :)

The announcers said that it was none other than Wesley Woodyard who led the players over to the UK fans who had traveled to Fayetteville for the game. I was not at all surprised to hear that.
KUDOS to Wesley, and how I would have LOVED to have been there! What a celebration the players and fans shared! I am so happy for RV and all those who were able to go, though! :)
