The moment University of Kentucky fullback John Conner learned he would get a scholarship this season, he quickly transformed himself into an actor.
That's what helped him remain calm when UK head coach Rich Brooks pulled him aside during a spring practice to give him the good news he had been hoping for.
When the sculpted 5-feet-11 sophomore decided to become a walk-on for the Wildcats instead of accepting scholarship offers from smaller schools, he made it his mission to earn a full ride.
Though there were several players in the running for a scholarship, Conner won out because "he was the one who stood out the most," Brooks said.
Still, Conner wasn't quite mentally prepared for the day it would actually happen - hence the need to channel Terrence Howard.
"It felt real good, it was a big relief," Conner said. "I can't really explain it, it just felt real good.
"Inside I was screaming, but I had to hold it together in front of coach Brooks."
