Loose quote: "When mediocre programs have big wins they usually come out flat the next week."

I'm a big Colin Cowherd fan, so it made me cringe when I heard him say this today and pick Arkansas as one of his "Locks of the Week". Just last week he picked UK as a lock over Louisville... He usually knows his college football stuff, but he's wrong about this pick. This is a UK team unlike any in my lifetime. I think they'll step up, and after this win and a few more throughout October we will NO LONGER be a "mediocre program"!

It really should be no surprise, but I've yet to see anyone in any major sports news outlet pick UK to beat Arkansas...

I think mediocre is a step up for us, actually. Before last year, we were kinda pitiful.

Yeah we have never been "mediocore" we have been the "doormat". We need to live this season to the fullest because its back to the basement after this year. We got really lucky that all the seniors we have developed and became stars but Andre, Keenen, Wesley, Rafeal, and Tamme will not be walking through the door next year. We are not a program that can just reload that kind of talent. It will be a while before we are this good again.

Spencer Tillman on CBS picked UK by "at least" a touchdown, FWIW...

Cowherd can be right on the money- and he can also be clueless. It's hard to nitpick with him after he called the W last week. (FWIW, he also called out Tubby Smith for slowly erroding our basketball program. One of the few national media members to speak the truth on that subject).

As to the AR game tomorrow- Kentucky has to come out ready to play or we're going to get flat out run over. The atmosphere will be hostile, the Hogs are ticked off, and MacFadden is the real deal. UK has the upperclass leadership to be ready tomorrow night. We just have to go out and show it on the field.

Even with a road W at Arkansas I doubt we'll be a favorite at SC, or at home against LSU and FL. We probably won't be favored to win in the SEC until Miss State comes to Lexington in over a month. Get used to the media doubting this team can keep the momentum. That's just how people on the outside see Kentucky Football. This is the year to prove them wrong.

Go Cats! Beat them Hogs!

Next year's team might be better, just like UTK's team was better after Peyton.

Colin Cowterd is just like the rest of those ESPN talking heads. The only expert skill they have is with their mouths. Take that as you like.

we ususally play Ark pretty tough..If we arent flat,it will be a heck of a game..I dont think the seniors will let the team be flat..

I totally disagree. The defense will be another year stronger, and we have Steve Johnson, Dicky Lyons, Demoreo Ford, Tony Dixon, Alfonso Smith, Derrick Locke, and hopefully, Curtis Pulley at QB.

Absolutely. Also, football games are won and lost more on the line of scrimmage than anywhere else. We lose very few there. This year's seniors will be greatly missed, no doubt about it, but the cupboard will hardly be bare.

Isn't Steve Johnson is a senior this year? He had 2 years as a JuCo, sat out a year, played last year and this year.

Brian you are telling me that list of guys are going to be able to sustain the level of play that we have now??? And Curtis Pulley are you serious we have 4 first round NFL picks leading this team when those guys leave im sorry but we are going to slip back down a couple notchs Curtis Pulley are you guys kidding me???? It took Woodson 3 years to become what he is now its not going to be that easy trust me

I would like to bring this thread back up next year when we arent on cloud 9 still and maybe you guys will have came back down to earth by then.

But, for one thing I hope your right and im wrong but I just dont see it happening.

The difference in Andre his first year and the next two is a new and awesome quarterback coach. The same one that coached Peyton Manning. He will be there for Curtis Pulley too.

I really, really, really, dont want to come off as negavitve I really dont. BUT an Andre Woodson doesnt come along every couple years or even every 10 years. And im sorry but I do not believe that Curtis Pulley will be our answer at QB, Next year would be his first year starting I dont care who the QB coach is he will be a deer in headlights versus the SEC next year. Im sorry guys I just do not agree with you at all. Like I said I am going to live this year likes it our last because im telling you next year its back to the cellar. For a while, Im not saying we wont be back to the level we are at now but its just gunna take a couple years.

Hartline will start at QB. He will surprise. Pulley should be moved to another position.

And yet another I saw since I started this thread- Mark May picked UK on Sportscenter this evening.---- And Lou Holtz picked Arkansas- which bodes well for UK since a Lou Holtz pick is worth about as much as a Lee Corso pick!

Let's hope Corso picks Arkansas as well on Gameday...

4 first round picks? Woodson is the only first rounder. IMO Trevard Lindley will be someday, but that is it. All of the others are likely later round picks like 3rd, or 4th. But they are NFL type players which we have had none of in recent years.

Also, I think you are underestimating what we have coming back because one of the big things we have now that makes us competitive in the SEC is depth. We have always had competitive first stringers but usually sufferred a huge dorpoff in the 2nd and 3rd strings. That doesn't happen now. Now we have guys like Johnnie Williams step into starting roles and play like future draft picks. We have losses on the D-line and don't really miss a beat. The guys providing depth now will step into starting roles in the years to come. The key is Brooks and Joker have to keep recruiting like they have the last 4 or 5 years.

No way. Pulley is waiting in the wings and will be a good one, IMO.

Actually, one of the neatest things about this team is that almost every single one of the seniors is a star, but there aren't that many of them. This team is still young.

In order for the, "this team will have to rebuild" argument to hold one would expect a senior laden OL and defense. Specialists besides QB are usually the easiest to replace.

These coaches have built this program up on a solid foundation. It is not smoke and mirrors like the previous coaching staffs have used. Andre was a well regarded quarterback coming out of high school, but not considered a lock to be a superstar like Brohm was. Jacob Tamme's career is very familiar to me because I am a Boyle County grad and fan and probably never missed more that two or three of his high school games. He was not considered a big time recruit and previous UK coaches were going to pass on him. We knew he had so much potential because we had watched him catch every ball that was thrown his way as a receiver. He has wonderful hands and just a nose for the ball. This coaching staff moved him to tight end and made him all SEC at that position. So many stories about these "unforgettable" Seniors. It's been awhile since they were freshmen and I don't remember for sure but I don't think any of them were considered sure fire winners on the recruiting trail.

This is not your same Kentucky program. Yes we will have a hard time replacing these guys but there is some good talent waiting in the wings and they are being coached every day by some special coaches on this staff. One of my biggest fears is not being able to keep this staff intact for a few more years.

GO BIG BLUE!!!

Woodson is the only first rounder.

The last time I saw it, Mel Kiper had Keenan Burton at about #22 on his Big Board, which would mean he's got a great shot at being a first round pick, too.

Little has been rumored if he has a good year to make it in the later part of the first round and so far hes having a pretty good year. They say he may be another Brian Westbrook at the next level. Also I was putting Stevie Johnson as a first rounder considering there isnt alot of depth this year at the reciever postition and he is poised to have a big year.

While that may be quite true, I'm certain the players they have don't come close to the caliber of players we faced this past Saturday night. The team will be focused and we'll be fine. Schnellenberger might be the coach but this is not one of his Miami teams we're facing.

I respect your opinion, Carter, so I am even more concerned about the game. Too, I'm frankly concerned that our fans will not be as loud as we should be when we are on defense. Historically, our fans seem to sit back and relax in games they EXPECT to win. Then we complain that the players were not respecting the opponent and were thus not ready to play. :icon_frown:

The players AND we fans had better be ready for Saturday's game. Yes, I badly want to be 5-0 after Saturday's game. By the way, in one rating system this team was ranked in the upper seventies. This one is NOT a "gimme" win, and we do not need to treat it as such. Further, that it follows two huge wins and comes only days ahead of a huge SEC game against South Carolina makes it dangerous, regardless of the opponent.

Now let's GET THE WIN Saturday!!!
