The Nelson County girls’ basketball team won its 19th District Tournament opener, but lost a key starter.
Nelson County’s Amy Kurtz injured her left knee with 2:45 to play in the second quarter during a 51-42 victory against Washington County (12-15) Monday at Bethlehem.

Edelen, a University of Kentucky signee, scored 23 points on 9-of-21 from the field and added eight rebounds in her final basketball game at Washington County. She finished her career with about 2,300 points.
