Pat Forde and Skip Bayless were talking about who's a better conference Pac-10 and SEC. Pat Forde said that SEC is. Skip says that Pac-10 is and and then said the reason is Pac-10 has 3 great teams SEC has 2 great teams LSU and Florida and said that Kentucky is overrated.

Who's Skip Brianless?

Oh, he's some guy that used to be a sportswriter for the Dallas Morning News. My wife is from Dallas and half the people in the state can't stand the guy. He's made a reputation by writing critical columns that are over the top most of the time and being a basic jerk to everyone and everybody.
The best thing to do with him is ignore him.

Bayless is a weenie, and most of the sports fans in Dallas donīt take him seriously. We shouldnīt either.

I can not stand that guy. Total jerk and super annoying. First time I have heard him mention UK so my total and complete dislike of him is unrelated to this comment. I just think he represent everything wrong with sports journalism. He has replace substance and knowledge with volume and anger. He never knows what he is talking about but he always yells and gets worked up about it. He is truely aweful. The sooner he gets fired the better. Thankfully he hasn't expanded much beyond ESPN First Take which very few people watch since it is on at 10am when most are at work.

Sports Illustrated went through this a couple of weeks ago. They ruled that the SEC "rules", hands down.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about what this guy says. ESPN had to look under the barrel to find him. He couldn't even make it up to the bottom of the barrel, he's so bad. :thumbdn:

I mean WHO REALLY thinks the PAC 10 is better than the SEC? I mean I will agree to a small extent that I don't think we are #14 caliber (at this point.... I hope we really are though!), but there is NO DOUBT the SEC is the king of the land... and I would be willing to say the SEC can size up to many teams in the NFL.

I also think that we are ranked a bit high...I think we are really about #18-#20. If we beat South Carolina, though, we will deserve every bit of a top-15 ranking.

Well, the Pac 10 did get bumped from the #1 spot...............in ugly uniforms. Oregon has held that distinction for years but Syracuse has them beat this year!

10 out of 12 teams in top 40 in the SEC. Hands down... SEC Rules!

To further expound on that information:

SEC - Average RPI of 29.33
PAC Ten - Average RPI of 43.9

The numbers don't lie.

SEC is definitely better in football, probably basketball too. However, to claim a SEC team could beat a NFL team is similar to my ex-wife claiming that National Champion Georgetown College could beat UK, even in the dark days.

after reading the title, I thought the original post would be something like:
"do we run Raphy up the gut or let Dre drop a bomb on Keenan or Stevie"

but anyway I hate bayless too but he might be right that we are overrated. I mean, you take a couple key plays away and were 2-2 and not even close to the top 25. Just playing an advocate of the devil here because honestly, I think were pretty freaking good....most of the time.

the main thing to consider though is that there are probably 20 teams at a very similar level to us, and any of them could be ranked #15 and have it make sense to alot of people. There are a very small number of teams that actually look "alot better" than us at this point (florida isn't one of them) and of course we could beat any of those on any given saturday.

rankings are based on wins and losses, not how teams actually played.
that's why they are, while fun, utterly useless.

I don't know, that 2001 team we had was pretty damn good . . . . ;)

Bayless wrote two books about the '90's Dallas Cowboys: "The 'Boys", and "Hell Bent".

They weren't Pulitzer nominees by any stretch, but they were interesting books.

That being said, he's become more and more shrill the longer he's been on 1st and 10, and frankly, as big a goof as he was, I enjoyed Woody Paige much better. Woody's a lout, but at least he's entertaining, and doesn't remind me of my grandmother when she sees me drinking a beer.....

"SINNER!!!!!"

IMO, instead of Skip "matching wits" with people like Forde, (on a related note...have you read his "Forde Yard Dash" column? God, it sucks), or ex-athletes, I'd rather see them rotate it on a weekly basis.

Jamele Hill is excellent, and some of the ex-athletes, or current 'out of season' athletes are cool. Mix it up a little ESPN!

My friends and I have played a game called "Who Would You Like to Punch in the Face?" I remember one time that someone answered with Jay Mariotti, so that kind of forced my response to be Skip.

the sec is better than the pac 10, but to bring the NFL into the conversation is a bit over the top, imho.I don't know about that. College has a significant advantage in that you get 85 instead of 55.

The advantage for the NFL is no statistics classes. :)

The NFL is too high a bar, but any other league, including NFL Europe, would have trouble in the SEC.

As a boy I watched the college all-stars beat the NFL championship team on television one year. They stopped having that game.

BTT No rankings are meaningful except the last one.
