I was never a fan of Bill Curry the coach, but always a huge fan of Bill Curry the man. This article on the ESPN website is written in regards to Coach Gundy's tirade but goes much, much deeper. He writes from the perspective of both coach and media. It is, in my estimation, one of the best-written articles I have read in quite some time. Others may completely disagree and I have no issues if they do.

That's a very entertaining and informative article. He writes from both perspectives, although he clearly is still a football coach who is earning a living in the media. Still, though, he has a gift in writing and an intelligence with his words. Good read.

I like that line about coaches answering to AD's who never played the game... :icon_lol:

Curry as a football coach is open for debate, but I think the guy has a lot of class. The way he handled the Trent DiGiurio situation was admirable, and I can't imagine a lot of other coaches doing as well.

Good article. He hits the nail on the head.

Bill Curry, like most coaches, won when he had talent - struggled when he didn't.

Let's face it - 2 years ago when Rich Brooks was lacking talent, some were wanting to run him out of town on a rail. Today, those same people are willing to crown him Emperor.

And so it goes.

A basketball coach (who was on the hot seat) once told me that his AD was the track coach. He said what does a track coach know? All he has to teach is, keep to your left and get back as soon as you can. :icon_rolleyes: :icon_lol:

Great article!!! Spot on.

Any coach worth his salt would defend his guy. Perhaps the manner in which he did so was inappropriate, but there is nothing wrong with what he did. I have to believe that at least some to the outrage over Gundy's reaction is due to the fact that the sportswriter was a woman. . . Curry makes another point that is a good one -- many sportwriters have never even been athletes; yet they often make assumptions when they have no real, innate understanding of what really consitutes a "team." I am a football coach and I bet I know exactly the thought process than ran through Gundy's mind when he read an article questioning one of his players' toughness.

"What in the world does this sportswriter know about 'toughness?'"
