Our offense and special teams have been giving away points at a rate which needs to stop - immediately. We've had two kickoffs and three fumbles returned for TD's along with a safety totalling 37 points, so for our 6 games thus far that averages a little over 6 ppg. We are allowing 24.5 ppg overall so realistically our D is giving up only 18.5 ppg and given we've likely faced more potent offenses in the first half of the season that bodes well for the second half. This is outstanding and if we can clean up those 'problems' on O and ST then we'll be that much more difficult to beat. I believe this can and will be done. Hats off to our D and may our O become more formidable with fewer miscues and better special teams play.

Interesting, and encouraging. That does seem to bode well for the rest of the season, if those numbers can be cut considerably.

i've been saying that we'd be better off not spotting the other team a touchdown everygame. now i've got the stats to back it up.

Very nice observation. I knew our defense had improved but it really is nice to see that they are giving up only 18.5 ppg. Go defense and keep it up. I am hoping the coaching staff has had the offense running drills or something to improve handling the ol pigskin.
Anybody remember the movie "The Program" where the coach had Omar Epps' character carry the ball around everywhere even classt improve his fumblitis. His coach told him that he had better bring his ball back to him or else or something to that effect. Maybe CRB tried something like that.

As long as Andre' doesn't become a drunk with a motorcycle, and as long as Jarmon doesn't start taking steroids, this might be a good idea.

Seriously, though, I'm glad RV pointed this out. Perhaps it's mostly due to the media relying on anecdotal evidence instead of actually doing research, but you still hear things like, "Yeah, the Kentucky offense is pretty good, but the defense is so bad that the offense won't have a chance to win the game." As these stats indicate, the defense is holding its own.

How about our 1st play from scrimmage, we just hand the ball to Little. That will save us 7 points.

Even better, Just take a knee. LOL

With six more games coming up and three of them being our toughest, I'm betting we turn that giving up a 'mistake' TD per game gets turned around. If so and if we stay on the same scoring defense pace we will have one heck of a turnaround from all our recent past seasons.

Defense has certainly improved, but it had a long way to go. Our new DC seems to know what he has and uses it well, imo.

It concerned me, however, that we couldn't get USC off the field late in the game (twice!) - could have made a huge difference as our offense finally seemed to have snapped out of it.

I like the improvement. Would love to see more.
