Has anybody noticed how quickly you loose respect with one loss to a ranked team? All the experts have knocked Andre out of the Heisman Race. He went from number 2 to number 8 in the ESPN predictions. ESPN bowl prediction we went from the Outback Bowl to the Liberty Bowl. WOW! CBS Sportsline has a dropping like a rock.

i heard today that usc (the real usc) is already talking it's the end of a dynasty and carroll will leave and go back to the pros. it's a fickle sport.
plus the burdon is on uk to prove to the nation that they are for real. we've been down for a long time and it's going to take some sustained success to get everyone else to buy into what we already know.
we win, andre throws for 400 yards and three tds and he'll be the best thing since heisman himself on espn.
And you're surprised?!?! :shrug1:
Of course we dropped like a rock. We have no good recent history for voters to latch onto. After we beat LSU and Florida they'll have to move us up a spot or two.;)

I wonder how a quality loss against LSU will impact our poll decision. I don't want to think negatively, but if we lose while playing tough, how can you drop us further in the polls?

Some other source I looked at had dropped us from either the Outback or Capital One Bowl to being back at the Music City Bowl playing against Georgia Tech.

ukfubar, let us think this over.
Andre fumbled twice and they were returned for TD's by the same player which ties an NCAA record.
Pass intercepted by SC on their goal line.
Does that sound like a Heisman winner at clutch time.
This is no knock on Andre, just the way that Heisman voters think.

Poll voters use win-loss records as shorthand instead of learning about the teams. It's stupid, but they do that. A 5-2 Kentucky team with losses to the #1 and #9 team in the nation will not fare as well as a 6-0 South Florida or Boston College team that has only beaten mostly lame teams.
The exception, of course, is Notre Dame; they get bonus points for being Notre Dame regardless of record or schedule. (Not this year, though, thankfully . . . )

here is a list of heisman winners the last 10 years. as you can see, andre' is up against a wall with winning the heisman just by not playing for a traditional national power. i would think his margin for error is very small.
i'm still rooting for him and believe that it is still possible.
2006 Troy Smith Ohio State
2005 Reggie Bush Southern California
2004 Matt Leinart Southern California
2003 Jason White Oklahoma
2002 Carson Palmer Southern California
2001 Eric Crouch Nebraska
2000 Chris Weinke Florida State
1999 Ron Dayne Wisconsin
1998 Ricky (puff-puff) Williams Texas
1997 Charles Woodson Michigan

according to wikipedia (may all be facts, may not)

proof that a heisman doesn't guarentee success in the nfl. give the heisman to someone from a power house, let andre' lead nfl teams to super bowls.

All the experts Not all of them. Rightly so, Herbstreet said, "Come on... he's playing two of the best two teams in the country the next couple of weeks. If he is able to turn it around at all he will go right back up the list."

Since the giveaway at SC, the up coming LSU game and the remainder of the games this season is about noting more and nothing less than REDEMPTION.
REDEMPTION, for the players, coaches and fans. This is a top team in the toughest division of the toughest college football conference in the nation. The Wildcats will prevail because it’s not about respect anymore, it’s about REDEMPTION!

He will go back up if he has a good couple of games against the stiff competition that we are about to play. But that is a HUGE if.
However, I see why he dropped so far. Andre had 3 turnovers including two fumbles and a INT (in the red zone). Those are not the stats of a Heisman trophy winner generally. But with the teams UK plays he can get back to the top of the list if he finishes the season strong. But if you notice from above most players that win the Heisman are from lesser conferences because they can run rough shot over the competition while running up their numbers. When you play in a great conference like the SEC you play against great defenses every week and it is hard to get those stats that bowl over the voters.

Actually it is more about team success than anything. Look at that list. Almost every team won or was in the title game. If Uk loses 3 games and Andre plays fantastic in all of them he still probably won't win the heisman. The QB or RB for one of the best teams ussually wins. They ussually are good college players or else their team wouldn't be good, but it isn't about being the best college player or anything close.
If Andre just played OK the rest of the way but suddenly the D became unbelievable he would have a better shot than if we lose 2-3 more games while putting up unbelievable stats. It is dumb, but it is reality. You can get close with a decent team but you rarely win without a title contending team. That is why John David Booty gets mentioned despite never doing anything to deserve it.

Agree but it still boils down to conference strength because those players teams play one to two good teams a year while UK plays four or five ranked teams a year. It is a lot harder to get that one loss year out of a schedule like ours.

1997 Charles Woodson Michigan
His other handicap: playing in the SEC. Think about some of the SEC players who didn't win that award over them.
Charles Woodson in 1997 over Peyton Manning?
Troy Smith in 2006 over Darren McFadden or JaMarcus Russell?
There are a lot of examples in between, too.
Players at Notre Dame have won it 7 times. Ohio State, 7 times. Southern Cal, 7. Michigan 3, Nebraska 3, Oklahoma 4 . . . Meanwhile, only 4 SEC schools have won it (South Carolina won before they were in) and no SEC school more than 2 times. All you have to do is look at the NFL or even the NFL draft to know that's screwy.
The Heisman is a joke.

You will notice that no SEC player has won during this time, but how many SEC teams have won national championships??
Tennessee
Auburn
Florida
No player is going to look all that good playing against SEC teams.
Unless your name is Jackson or Walker. These are the real men of the SEC.

herschel walker, man was he awesome at georgia. i remember my dad taking me to a uk/ga game and herschel broke loose from about 60 yards out and he was gone to the house. i actually stood up and started chearing. my dad was like "son, what the hell's a matter with you, sit down:icon_lol:."
bo and herschel was just too good to be denied. they missed one with peyton as well.

That is my point, it take someone like them in the SEC to get the Heismann.
Woodson was pushed by ESPN so it was no go for Manning. Manning should have won it hands down. Woodson plays in the conf that does not know how to count its teams.
