Anyone heard if he will be playing sat? There were some rumors floating that coach brooks said he would be back ready to go on sat...we can only hope...

I would love to believe such rumors, but I feel sure that is all they are. How I would love to be wrong, of course! I so feel for Ricky, and this team so misses him, too.

He told us while we were camping out for BBM tickets that he would be back for LSU. That has been a couple weeks ago, so unless he had a setback I would say yes.

He wasn't using crutches any more when on the sideline during the Florida Atlantic game. I'm hopeful he's cleared to play Saturday.

The word I get is that he is a long way from playing shape and if the recovery process slows surgery may be necessary. I hope this is all a case of sandbagging and Ricky comes out smoking on Saturday. I am afraid it is not.

You two are getting my hopes up. :) Only a couple of weeks ago, Coach Brook was answering a caller, saying that Ricky was out indefinitely amd might not return this year (although he did say that he was doing some better). Oh, how I HOPE! :)

From reading a couple other boards I believe that Ricky has either not practiced or has done so on a limited basis and will still be out for an undertimined length of time. If I were advising him I think I'd go for a medical redshirt and let him get 110% healthy. His actual hip condition still remains a mystery to me.

I would have to agree with you as much as I don't want to see him out. I would rather him get back 100% and less chance of injury. The last thing he needs is to seriously injure it more so than it already has been.

Thanks, Ed. I was getting my hopes up just a little, but that is more what I had really expected to hear. :icon_sad:

How is he going to red shirt since he has already redshirted?

A hardship is still possible.

The NCAA usually will issue the hardssip or medical redshirt to players who missed redshirted or missed most of all of another season due to injury. If it is possible for him to obtain that, it would allow him to get back to 100% and possibly have a better career (long term look) because he would have yet another year with the team and coaching staff and would have one more year in the weight room and things like that. 6 year seniors are usually pretty scary guys when all their setbacks happened at earlier stages in their careers.

"The NCAA usually will issue the hardssip or medical redshirt to players who missed redshirted or missed most of all of another season due to injury."

The key thing to remember here is that you must have missed two seasons due to injury AND have played less than 25% of the games in either year. IOW, you can't just sit out one year as a RS (without injury) and subsequently get injured and have to sit out a later year and expect eligibility to be extended in your sixth year.

Since Ricky sat out last year with an injury and would have missed all but a game and a half this season due to injury then he would qualify to petition for an extra year AFTER his 5th year at UK. However, that sixth year is by no means guaranteed.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure the actual way it worked out. I would say that he could be eligible for that 6th year assuming he misses the rest of this season. But seeing as it isn't guranteed if he is able to make it back out on the field this season, I hope to see him. I just don't want to see him get rushed out there before he is ready and get hurt more seriously. I really don't think Brooks will do that to him though.
