I was at the UK - LSU game this week (thankfully) and there was the pass interference call on LSU that was reviewed and overturned because the ball apparently had been tipped somewhere along the way. I know that penalties can't be reviewed so I guess what I'm curious about is did they review to see if the ball had been tipped? If so, how come you can still overturn a penalty after they have been called and everything? I know we won and all is good but I was just more or less wondering how this unfolded. I forgot to bring my radio with me to the game so I was at a loss when I heard the play was under review and then they came out and said the ball had been tipped so there was no penalty. I was under the impression (apprently wrongly, in cases like this anyway) that once a penalty was called, you couldn't take the penalty away or overturn it.

I checked the plays that are subject to review by the SEC and the play described is reviewable.
2. Passing plays.
c. Touching of a forward pass by a defensive player.

Ok, thanks very much for the info. I was sitting with a friend when they said they were reviewing it at the game and neither of us had a clue what was going on.

I thought the same thing watching the game on TV. "Are they allowed to review that?" Of course, I knew it was tipped and wanted someone to stop the officials! LOL! But no worries like you said.. we won. :icon_mrgreen:

PI calls are overturned all the time for tipped balls, uncatchable balls, receiver out of bounds, receiver behind LOS. So why wouldn't a review to determine a tipped ball result in an overturn?
