View Full Version : TO Before Field Goal...
This was being discussed on Monday night football last week and brought up many times today, should it be illegal? I don't think so as it's completely legal, but then again how are you going to rule it? No timeout once the kicker is set? I mean coaches are to the point where they are getting next to the ref and faking it, as Sean Payton did tonight.
What do you think should happen? On sports reporters they said rules should be implemented, but I just wanna know how..

The NCAA rule book reads as follows.
Rule 3; Article 4.
When timeouts are not exausted, an official shall allow a charged team timeout when requested by any player or head coach when the ball is dead.
Then in sub-article d.
A head coach who is in, or in the vicinity of, his team area or coaching box may request a timeout between the time the ball is declared dead and the next snap.
I think it's the same way in the NFL. IMO, as long as it's legal, the coach should be able to use it to his teams advantage. It's still icing the kicker, they are just waiting til just before the snap to call it. Much like letting a batter get set in the batters box, before going out to talk to your pitcher.
