Joe Torre has turned down a 1-year deal offered to him by the NYY.
They offered him 5 million, with incentives if he reached levels of the playoffs.
The Joe Torre Era of New York Yankee Baseball has officially ended.

Say it aint So Joe. I really hate to see him leave, I just hope the yankees organization can keep the dynasty and legacy alive. I wouldn't mind seeing Larussa or Girardi take over the thrones. Thanks Joe for a great run.

I hate to see him go....as a yankee's fan, he and sweet lou have been my favorite managers. But, I can totally understand his decision....good luck Joe.
Now...as for a replacement, I'd love to see Mattingly come in and do well, however, unless Cashman needs to get his head out his 'you know what' in order for anyone to do well.

I'm a fan of the Yankees, but I'm really enjoying how the brass got this whole situation thrown back in their faces. They have been publicly dragging Joe Torre in the mud for weeks in the media hinting at how they may fire him, or "we'll just have to evaluate and see if we want to bring him back". Everyone thinks Torre's fate is in Steinbrenner's hands. Then they "allow" him to come back for another year and Torre goes "Screw you, shove it" and leaves on his own terms.
I wish him well, and also the new Yankees manager, whoever he may be. I wish Cincy could have gotten Torre, but Dusty Baker is also a good choice, I just hope they give him an actual major league pitching staff.

Torre has been one hell of a coach. Cashman needs to be replaced, even Bowden, the clown that was at Cincinnati and now at Washington is smarter than Cashman. Blows a lot of smoke up the Boss's behind I guess. Goes out and pays a ton of money for a bunch of washed up starting pitchers. That kind of money should have an all star through the 5 man in the rotatation and a bullpen to match. Buys the hitters but everyone knows pitching wins in baseball. I wish Joe the best and wished he had the opportunity to coach Cincinnati but maybe Baker can make something happen here.

This was a stupid move by Torre, he would have gotten a base pay of 5 million, a 1 million dollar bonus for making the playoffs, another 1 million dollar bonus for winning a playoff series, and another 1 million for I think either making or winning the world series...where else can he go and make this kind of money? To me he didin't want to stay and was waiting for them to fire him to be a martyr. Cashman has actually made some good moves with younger talent, they are set up nicely with guys like Duncan, Chambalain, Cano, etc. They just need to dump the high end of the payroll and look for quality free agents.

I expect the Yankee manager job to be a revolving door for the the foreseeable future. Torre knew how to handle the pressure from "The Boss" and the media.
I think it was a bad mistake not letting Torre go out on his own terms. I don't blame Torre a bit for not taking that offer. He's accomplished so much as Yankee manager he didn't need to have those incentives. It was,IMO,basically an insult to him and I'm sure he felt that way too.

I have always hated the Yankees and the other big market teams like the Braves that can buy any pitcher it wants. Steinbrenner has the largest ego in sports. I think Torre is a slug for using his celbrity status to get his 70+ year old brother leap frogged in the donor list, ahead of a lot of younger people who deserved a chance at life. I really could care less who is in the playoffs, if the Reds are not playing. But, anytime the Yankees are out of the playoffs is good for me.

Looks like he's going to be going to the Dodgers and taking Mattingly with him.
