The Field goal was a positive but disappointing. UK will need to score over 30 points to win this game imo.

Florida scores a touchdown. They are up by 11.
I hope I am wrong but this game reminds me of the South Carolina game. Kentucky is not turning the ball over but they have had alot of opportunities slip by, and when that happens, upsets occur.

I think they've played better than they did during the South Carolina game. The offense has moved the ball very well, but have come up empty too many times. Hopefully, they'll be able to finish those drives in the second half. No panic yet.

Vandy has done UK a solid by defeating USC today. In order to succeed in the second half UK needs to:
- Get creative on D. Blitz occasionally. Only rush 3 the next play and drop a lineman. UF's 'O' is unorthodox, why can't our 'D' be unorthodox?
- Locke becomes the exclusive back. Dixon will give you 11 yards one play and negative 2 the next. I'd rather have 5-6 every time.
- One more special teams screwup and I say squib kicks into the wind (4th Q) from here on out.
- Keep Woodson in the shotgun. He gets killed under center.
- Wake up KEENAN!
- One other note: good half by Micah Johnson. He was drivin' em'!

The jump pass is the dumbest looking thing I've ever seen. I love winning as much as anyone and a score is a score, but I swear if my coach called that stupid thing, I'd check out of it!

They're running a Friday night offense and we can't stop it. Their center gives away their play (run/pass) on each snap. If our safeties would read him...

Guys, watch their center. On a run play, as soon as he snaps, he runs down field. On a pass play, he stands straight up. I know that's no great revelation, but he is the most blatant I've ever seen. Now, someone call Rich and let him in on it.

Tebow is so tough to defend. The CATS will have to contain him for the comeback to happen.

Plus, I have to give it to him now, Tebow is a beast.

Missing wide open recievers for TD's in the first half was the difference. That and allowing that big KO return at the end of the half.

Tough loss for Kentucky but Florida was very well prepared. CATS had there chances in the firsty half but came up empty a few times. Florida's 6 sacks was the main difference imo and Tebow played a very intelligent game.

Woodson had a great game it just wasn't good enough.

that was not the defending national champs. they lost most everyone and are still (apparently) at a higher level than we are. until we put together some sort of consistent defense we will not compete for an eastern crown. I have been confident in the defense through most of this year but tonight they could not put it together; they were basically swiss cheese and that cost us the game.

We could not stop Florida. They kept running the same plays, all delays - either the QB keeper, or a fake on the keeper with a pass. We put very little pressure on Tebow.
Our offense was very good, but our O-line kept missing out on blitzing D-linemen. It was especially bad when they sacked Woodson when rushing only 4.

you sound like Danielson, no thoughts of your own, This loss was not Woodson's fault, I say it was a good game and cats played great. Urban Meyer does a good job with some time to study tape and had his team ready to play. I'm proud of the cats, we battled and didn't give them anything, now it's time to run the table.

I'm sorry, but you have to hit wide open receivers when they are for TD's. Woodson played a tremendous 2nd half, but in the 1st half he could have made a couple other plays that would have changed things.

You can play a good game and still be capable of a better one. Ask #3 if he wishes he could have a couple of those throws back and what do you think he will say? Doesn't mean it's all his fault of course as the D couldn't get any stops on 3rd down and as I mentioned the big ST gaff on the KO return.

Is it a little or high(big) horse, relax T , I think S Johnson could have made his catch inside the endzone, and I think think there were a couple of miscommunications in the red zone, I don't know if Andre or the receivers were on the wrong route, do you?

You are correct, Johnson probably should have made his catch in bounds. But on a couple of other throws Woodson threw it out of bounds when the guy was wide open. I'm not blaming Woodson for the loss, just saying that if you hit those passes it's a different ballgame.

FL punted on the first possession & scored on every one after. You have to expect a little from your D & not expect the O to be perfect. The O was good enough IMO.

The kicking game hurt big time - missed makable FG, big KO returns, shanked punt, missed onsides opportunity, & squibbed last KO when deep kick could have given the D one more chance. Not Tim's best day. The short fields our kick game gave FL distorted the stats in our favor - TOP, yards, plays.

They were just better yesterday. We can argue the reasons all day long.

GBB!

FL punted on the first possession & scored on every one after...

I'm sorry, that just isn't true. Florida also punted on their first possession of the second quarter and again on their first possession of the fourth quarter for a total of three punts. And for the record, we punted only twice. Here are the complete game stats.

http://www.ukathletics.com/stats/2007_08/football/UK08.HTM#GAME.DRV

But otherwise I agree with you that the offense was certainly good enough to win and I was disappointed with the defense. Florida had two weeks to prepare and a chance to heal, we went into the game a little dinged up, and Florida is awfully fast.

Florida scores a touchdown. They are up by 11.
I hope I am wrong but this game reminds me of the South Carolina game. Kentucky is not turning the ball over but they have had alot of opportunities slip by, and when that happens, upsets occur.

FWIW, I had thought the same, Rockober. While we didn't turn the ball over and GIVE the game away as we had done at South Carolina, we stll let opportunities slip by in that first half, and that was costly. Too, Gators fan, while Florida had been favored to win the game, UK was the higher ranked team.

We did indeed force Florida to punt three times while we only punted twice. We outgained Florida by almost one hundred yards. YET, we missed out on those scoring opportunities, and the defense did not come through with some much-needed key stops, one of which was on that last drive when Commonwealth was the loudest I had ever heard it. Too, some mistakes on special teams really hurt us.

It was a TEAM loss. I really feel for our guys as I feel Florida had an advantage with the bye week, which gave them fresher legs AND the opprtunity to work on some new schemes, something Andre noted had caused our offense some problems in the first half. I cannot help but wonder if the game might have gone differently if the onsides kick had gone only a few more inches--OR if we had made that stop on Florida's last drive.

Neither happened, though, and we lost the game. Regardless, surely every UK fan is at least PROUD that the Cats, still again, kept fighting back, although eventually falling short. Now let's WIN the rest of them, ONE game at a time. I BELIEVE.

Diz

We were weak in the 4th quarter and our special teams did not focus on their jobs during most of the game.

As fans, we didn't sound very believable in the 4th quarter trying to organize a "we believe" chant. I was just plain tired, and felt like I had been drained the previous week. I suspect the team felt fine, but not at the 110% it takes to beat Florida on their good days. Florida played flawlessly, dropping only a few passes under moderate pressure.

The Cats did not counter-punch. We hit back, but we didn't hit back harder like we did against LSU and Arkansas.

We need a break. Mississippi State will not give us a break.

Special teams guys are mostly sophomores, but must start acting like seniors if they want to stay in the hunt. Yes, we are still in the hunt.

We could have all done better... but not much better.

Good post, Diz. Too, you are so right that this team needs a break right now and that MSU, unfortunately, is NOT a break. These UK players must simply "suck it up," as my younger son calls it, and give the effort to notch one more victory BEFORE that bye week and a three-game season. We fans SIMPLY MUST help these players do just that. This group of young men SO deserves a LOUD AND helpful Commonwealth crowd Saturday afternoon. GO CATS!!!
