Gillispie schedules practice before preseason opener
By Brett Dawson
The Courier-Journal
The University of Kentucky basketball team will suit up today and go full speed ahead.
Later the Wildcats will play a game.
UK will open its exhibition season -- and, unofficially, the Billy Gillispie era -- with a 7 p.m. exhibition game against Pikeville College at Rupp Arena. But the Cats will begin their basketball day five hours earlier with a full-speed, one-hour practice.
They should get used to it.
"I really believe that basketball's a game of habits," Gillispie said yesterday. "And I think if you teach people to go half speed, they get really good at going half speed. We want them to go full speed. I think it's a mind-set deal. Every time we take the floor, we're going to try to go full speed."
Don't be surprised if all that running makes UK look a little ragged.
"It's going to look a little rough out there," guard Ramel Bradley said.
